The opening race at Newmarket, a 6f Novice Stakes for 2yo’s was won by a 12/1 newcomer DETAIL.
The winning time was 72.21s, the average for a 2yo over C&D on Good to Firm going is 72.95s. DETAIL started tardily but travelled well through the race and quickened up well to take it up close home. I’ve given him a rating of 82p.
The 4.10 at Newmarket, a 7f class 2 handicap, was pulled out of the fire late by AMETIST. He had looked in trouble for most of the race, but came with a wet sail to lead close home. That’s four wins back to back and with a step up to a mile likely to bring more improvement, he could make it five. I’ve rated him 99p. Runner up NO NONSENSE was short of room and had to weave his way through to grab second late on. He can be marked up, I’ve rated him 92+
