You Wear It Well, a six-year-old mare trained by Jamie Snowden, displayed her class in the Weatherbys Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide Jane Seymour Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Sandown, and is now set to head to Cheltenham. The horse had already impressed with two clear-cut victories in novice contests early in the season and came into the Grade Two contest as the favourite after chasing home Ballymore favourite Hermes Allen in the Challow Hurdle on New Year’s Eve.
Ridden by Gavin Sheehan, the daughter of Midnight Legend took the lead early on in the race, but midway down the back, Bridget Andrews on She’s A Saint circled the field and went on from You Wear It Well. However, Sheehan did not rush to wrestle back the lead and allowed his mount to draw level with She’s A Saint at the second-last before kicking clear to win by seven-and-a-half lengths, with She’s A Saint coming in second.
The winner holds entries in both the Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle and Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at Prestbury Park next month, but the handler did not reveal which of her possible engagements would be taken. Meanwhile, Sheehan was keen to put the case for the mares’ only option, as he thinks the mares’ race at Cheltenham would suit You Wear It Well. Betfair has since reduced the odds for the mare to win the shorter of the two races from 16-1 to 10-1.
