In the Grade 2 Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park, Janidil, ridden by Rachael Blackmore, won the race with a well-timed ride. Janidil, who was the runner-up in last season’s Ryanair Chase, was making his first start of the campaign and went to post as the 7/2 second choice behind stablemate Haut En Couleurs. Haut En Couleurs, the 4/6 favourite, led three out but came under pressure going to the next. Blackmore, who had sat last on her mount for most of the race, came to challenge two from home and Janidil got on top from the hotpot running to the final fence. Despite an untidy leap there, the nine-year-old stayed on strongly on the run-in to win by a length-and-a-quarter. Willie Mullins, Janidil’s trainer, was pleased with his performance and thinks he is right in the Ryanair picture. Mullins also had three runners in the race and was happy enough with Haut En Couleurs, who may be considered for the Ryanair as well. Capodanno’s trip was too short, and Mullins will have a chat with his connections to decide whether to run him in the Gold Cup or the Aintree Grand National. After watching Shishkin’s performance in the Ascot Chase, Mullins believes that the horse is the favorite for the Ryanair. Blackmore commented that Janidil is a high-class horse who runs well fresh and that the trip suited him perfectly.
