Shiskin is back and heading for Cheltenham.

·

Nicky Henderson has once again defied the old adage “they never come back” as Shishkin, his latest charge, returned to the top of his game. Previously, Henderson had worked similar magic with Sprinter Sacre, who won a second Champion Chase after losing his way due to injuries and ailments. Shishkin had also suffered setbacks, being pulled up early in the Champion Chase due to a rare bone condition and later finishing a one-paced third in the Tingle Creek. However, after a wind operation and stepping up to two miles and five furlongs, Shishkin was imperious, easily beating his rivals Pic D’Orhy and Fakir D’Oudairies. Henderson credits a team effort, including the Donnellys, vets, and changing tactics, for Shishkin’s return to form. While a Gold Cup entry seems unlikely, Henderson believes the Ryanair is the right race for Shishkin. Nico De Boinville, Shishkin’s jockey, also praised the horse’s performance and believes he will improve from the run.
