Last time out Wonder Spirit won a handicap over course and distance following a good 2nd in a similar race. After initially leading for the first furlong, he tracked the leaders and was in third place at the halfway point. Approaching the 2-furlong marker, he was in contention for the lead and went on to share the lead. With 1 1/2 furlongs remaining, the jockey urged the horse forward and took a narrow lead. He maintained the lead under pressure and was joined by Satono Chevalier (a winner twice since) in the final 100 yards. However, he managed to hold on and win by a narrow margin at the finish line.
He’s in good form at present and should be knocking at the door here off only a 5lb higher mark.
