Yesterday, Gordon Elliott achieved a 1-2 in the featured Paddy Power Stayers Hurdle, and he also secured the top two record-breaking lots at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival Sale after racing.
Aidan Ryan, on behalf of the Keep The Dream Alive (KTDA) syndicate, paid a record price of £420,000 for Romeo Coolio, a four-year-old Kayf Tara who won a point-to-point at Belclare last weekend.
The KTDA syndicate has previously enjoyed Festival success with Mount Ida, and this gelding was purchased at the Tattersalls Derby Sale last summer for €92,000 by Monbeg Stables.
Similarly, Jalon D’Oudairies won a four-year-old maiden at Lingstown last weekend and was also bought by Elliott for £420,000 from Monbeg Stables. The son of No Risk At All won the same point as Bravemansgame and Gerri Colombe.
“Jalon D’Oudairies is a lovely horse; he came well recommended, and we saw him before he ran,” said Elliott. “These are the sort of horses we want. We thought Romeo Coolio and this horse were the best here. He does not have an owner yet, but we will have one by the time the night is out!”
A total of 20 horses were sold for a record aggregate of £3,450,000, while the average price of £172,500 was also a record for this sale.
