DUKE OF LANCASTER ACADEMY, FAKENHAM MAIDEN HURDLE (4)

Distance 2m 4f 1y

Prize £4,629 Age 4yo+ Race State Declaration Runners 7

Going Good

  1. State Of Bliss: Quite useful at up to 1m4f on the Flat for the Johnstons; bought for £11,000 in October; creditable third at Kempton last week on second run over hurdles (2m, good) and may do better over 2m4f; sets the standard.
  2. Copshill Lad: Stratford bumper winner last May (2m, good); some fair efforts over hurdles, including when third at Plumpton last time (2m4f, soft); a possible contender.
  3. Way Out: Irish point winner in March 2022 (3m, soft/heavy); has run well enough on occasions to suggest he can pick up a race like this, but is exposed and not proving easy to win with.
  4. Fulgurant: Showed promise in Irish points, particularly on final start in April 2022 when coming down at the last when alongside the leader (subsequently quite smart over hurdles); well beaten in a bumper on stable debut but improvement likely.

No additional horses that the rankings may have overlooked in this race.

Distance 2m 5f 44y

Prize £4,489 Rated (0-100) Age 5yo+ Race State Declaration Runners 7

  1. Legendary Rhythm: Has won two small-field mares chases at Leicester (2m4f, good; by 3l from Auditoria) and Wincanton (2m4f, good; Auditoria third) on last two starts; still feasibly treated and has a chance.
  2. Auditoria: Runner-up over C&D in February (good; first-time blinkers); has won or been placed in three mares chases since (twice finishing behind Legendary Rhythm), the win coming over 2m5f at Taunton in between (when first-time visored); a possible contender.
  3. Abaya Du Mathan: Exposed chaser who has been in the frame on last four starts, scoring in good style at Ffos Las on the latest outing (2m3f, good; second course win); back up 9lb but should go well again.
  4. Cloudy Wednesday: Beat Auditoria (who is now 6lb worse off) by 2.5l when winning over C&D off 1lb lower in February; mixed form since but was a fair fourth at Huntingdon last month and has possibilities.

No additional horses that the rankings may have overlooked in this race.

AUTISM IN RACING NOVICES’ HANDICAP HURDLE (5)

Distance 2m 4f 1y

Prize £4,225 Rated (0-100) Age 4yo+ Race State Declaration Runners 9

Going Good

  1. Scudamore: 1m6f Flat winner; off the mark over hurdles at Stratford 16 days ago (2m2f, good); up 7lb; this longer trip should suit; good chance.
  2. Enthused: Flat winner at up to 1m4f; well-beaten fourth in a maiden hurdle here in March (2m, soft) having finished a creditable fourth in a Huntingdon handicap on previous start (2m, good; tended to jump right); not sure to be suited by the return to 2m4f.
  3. Champagne Town: Changed hands for £180,000 after Irish point win in 2021; bit disappointing and cost present trainer £16,500 when re-sold last November; well-beaten third of four in a Doncaster novice on only start since (2m4f, good); has since had wind surgery and makes handicap debut.
  4. Lighthouse Mill: Yet to win in 11 starts over hurdles, but ran well enough off a 2lb lower mark when runner-up at Southwell last time (2m4f, good to soft) to suggest he has a chance.

No additional horses that the rankings may have overlooked in this race.

SNELLINGS SELLING HANDICAP HURDLE (5)

Distance 2m 3y

Prize £5,281 Age 4yo+ Race State Declaration Runners 6

Going Good

  1. Weebill: Two wins following wind surgery last season, a selling handicap off this mark at Market Rasen (2m, good to soft) and a claiming hurdle here (2m, good to soft); struck into when below best on heavy last time out but a strong contender on best form.
  2. Gavin: Hasn’t won since 2021, a 2m handicap at Uttoxeter, but drops in grade having finished a creditable second to a subsequent winner at Taunton last month; claims.
  3. Hayedo: Won a Hereford maiden hurdle in January 2022 (2m, good to soft); lightly raced and rather disappointing since but on a good mark and stable in fine form; off since August.
  4. Hey Bob: Won this race off a 10lb lower mark for Olly Murphy last year; won Cartmel seller last June (2m1f, good to soft) for present connections but well beaten since; a bit to prove on first run since September.

No additional horses that the rankings may have overlooked in this race.

SNELLINGS NORFOLK NATIONAL HANDICAP CHASE (3)

Distance 3m 5f 24y

Prize £15,609 Rated (0-125) Age 5yo+ Race State Declaration Runners 11

Going Good

  1. Midnight Mary: Dual course winner who ran creditably throughout last season, winning off 8lb lower over 2m3f at Wetherby in January; stays 3m1f and has run creditably over 3m3f but having first run at this trip.
  2. Wake Up Early: Stays well, having won over 3m3f at Market Rasen in May last year (good) and over 3m3f at Sedgefield in March (soft); below best last time when tried in a visor and blinkers back on here; could play a part.
  3. Tommie Beau: Won this off a 1lb lower mark last season (good); below his best at Southwell last month but handles most ground and is an obvious contender.
  4. Duc De Beauchene: Wincanton winner last month (3m1f, good to soft) and creditable second off this 11lb higher mark at Kempton since (3m good); in form but stamina to prove on first run at beyond 3m1f.

No additional horses that the rankings may have overlooked in this race.

JUMPING FOR FUN “GRASSROOTS” MAIDEN HUNTERS’ CHASE (5)

Distance 3m 38y

Prize £2,566 Age 5yo+ Race State Declaration Runners 6

Going Good

  1. Doctor Tom: Two point wins this year, the latest a restricted on the point course here last month (3m, good); up in grade.
  2. Fiddler Of Dooney: Has won six of his 24 starts in points; 16l third in this event in 2022 (good) but has finished last on both starts in points this year; others preferred.
  3. Raleagh Flora: Maiden point winner in 2021 (beat a useful sort); reappeared this year after 620 days off, pulling up in a Sedgefield novice handicap chase on first occasion (trained by Brian Ellison) but won a restricted in good style ten days ago (jumped well); a possible.
  4. For Rita: Has won seven points, two of them small-field events on last two starts; better effort when 0.5l second of three in a ladies open on previous start as the winner is useful and the other runner, who was held when falling at the last, had previously won a maiden hunter chase; the likely favourite.

No additional horses that the rankings may have overlooked in this race.
