Going Standard / Slow (Adjusted Timefigure in brackets)
- Heed The Call: (74+) Currently ranked first, Heed The Call is a half-sister to three winners and started as a favourite on her Bath debut last month. The horse showed good speed before faltering on slow ground. The horse’s late crack on slow ground is a cause for concern, but given its lineage and initial speed, it’s still a strong contender.
- Qandil: (87+) Ranked second, Qandil has put in two solid performances on turf but has consistently finished behind a stablemate of Heed The Call. The horse seems to be setting the standard for the race, with no excuses expected from its advantageous stall position. However, the fact that it hasn’t managed to beat Heed The Call’s stablemate in previous races could be a negative.
- Tejesueno: (37+) Ranked third, Tejesueno is the first foal of the yard’s Polytrack winner, Pacificadora. The horse recently made its debut on soft ground but didn’t demonstrate much promise. While the horse’s lineage suggests potential, its underwhelming debut casts doubt on its performance in this race.
- Forever A Diamond: This horse is related to winners, including one on a 2yo debut. However, it’s a late foal from a yard not particularly noted for juveniles. While Forever A Diamond’s lineage is promising, the fact that it is the first 2yo runner of the season from a yard that isn’t known for early bloomers suggests it may not perform well in this race.
Overlooked horse:
Profitable Dreams: Despite not being highly ranked, Profitable Dreams could be worth watching. The horse is an 8,500 euros yearling whose dam won on Tapeta. The yard has had a bright start with 2yos, with two winners on debut, suggesting that Profitable Dreams may have potential. However, the horse’s dam has not produced any notable offspring, which may cast doubt on its potential.

- Modaara: Modaara, a sibling to Benbatl and Fooraat, has a proven pedigree. She showed promise in her debut and subsequently won easily at Chelmsford. The fact that she’s being kept in competition as a 4yo is intriguing, suggesting her yard sees potential. There doesn’t appear to be any significant negatives associated with Modaara.
- Pop The Champagne: This horse has a strong record over hurdles, winning four last summer. However, she didn’t seem to fare well with a 2m4f distance in her last outing. While her transition back from a break could be interesting, she might be better suited for handicaps down the line. This potential struggle to adapt to the current race is a notable downside.
- Polar Princess: Polar Princess, a half-sister to six winners, seems to have benefitted from her debut experience. She showed improvement at Wolverhampton, despite reported respiratory noise. She also gets a lot of weight from Modaara, which could work in her favour. The respiratory noise could be a concern, potentially impacting her performance.
- Wodhooh: Wodhooh was easy to back but hasn’t performed well in her two runs to date. It’s possible that a stiffer test and a faster surface may improve her performance. However, she needs to demonstrate considerable improvement to be a serious contender in this race.
Overlooked horse:
Star For A Day: While not ranked highly, Star For A Day could be an interesting horse. Her half-sister, Speirling Beag, won twice as a 2yo in Ireland, suggesting a strong lineage. However, she did not fare well in her soft-ground bumper debut a month ago, failing to complete a 2m race. It’s possible that she might perform better in this Flat race, but she will need to show substantial improvement to get involved.

- Four Adaay: Four Adaay seems to perform best in spring races and has started the season well. All her wins have come during this period, and she’s currently on a competitive mark, 5lb lower than her last success. The only potential downside is that she might have performed better over a 5f distance, but it’s worth noting that she’s been successful in both her Polytrack races at Lingfield.
- Starsong: After arriving from Ireland, Starsong had an excellent winter, securing three victories. However, she has not lived up to the same standard in her last two races. The addition of blinkers to her usual hood is intended to help, but it’s uncertain if this change will yield the desired improvement.
- Trois Vallees: Trois Vallees showed consistency last year under James Tate’s guidance, even though she was off slightly higher marks. She was acquired for 17,000gns and her soft-ground comeback didn’t quite demonstrate the speed required for 5f. However, she’s expected to perform better on her Polytrack debut, which is a positive sign.
- Company Minx: While Company Minx has demonstrated talent in the past, she is currently quite inconsistent. After a surprising win at this course and distance, she performed poorly in her last outing. It’s hard to predict what to expect from her, which is a significant drawback.
Overlooked horse:
Jacquelina: While the rankings didn’t place her high, Jacquelina is an interesting horse to consider. She has been exposed as poor but managed to perform better than expected in a Brighton maiden race last week. If she’s able to take the lead in this race, she could present some possibilities. However, this strategy is a gamble and will depend on the tactics of other runners.

- Clipsham Gold: She won twice at Leicester last summer and made a surprising comeback at Wolverhampton in March. Her last race saw her race freely and support her previous performance, even with a revised mark, over this course and distance three weeks ago. She seems set to be a strong contender in this race.
- Sids Annie: Sids Annie was below par last time out in better company at Southwell but had shown consistency prior to that. She has previously won at this course and distance. While the handicapper might have a good measure of her ability, she’s expected to perform better in this race.
- Shalfa: Shalfa showed improvement last summer over 7f on turf when blinkers were added under Marco Botti’s guidance. Now back from a break and under a new yard after being bought for 14,500gns, she will be racing without the headgear this time, which adds an element of uncertainty. She has something to prove in this race.
- Melody Cher: She did not show much progress under Sir Michael Stoute before being sold for 2,500gns. However, she offered a bit more in her last race here, following a slow start, and going back up in trip could work in her favour.
Overlooked horse:
Adela Of Champagne: This daughter of the yard’s Listed winner Havre De Paix has potential but is somewhat unexposed as she enters handicap company after a six-month break. She hung right in her first two races last year, finishing lame on debut. If she overcomes these issues, she could be a dark horse in the race.

- Hickory: This horse was a dual course and distance winner before losing his unbeaten record at a short price on Tapeta last time. That race seemed rather chaotic and didn’t play to his strengths. The yard has been in good form recently, so he seems to be a solid contender for this race.
- Lir Speciale: After undergoing wind surgery, Lir Speciale won last September, which is a promising sign considering the seven-month break and him being gelded over the winter. His last race at this course and distance saw him finish strongly, leaving his rivals well behind. He has room for further improvement.
- Satin Snake: He has a good record over this course and distance, narrowly missing out on a win last Wednesday. He’s likely to take the lead again, although he’s racing off a mark that seems to reflect his best form. Additionally, he’s competing against a couple of horses with potential for improvement.
- Cry Havoc: A five-time Polytrack winner, including a win in her first race as a 3-year-old. However, her current mark doesn’t leave much room for manoeuvre, considering her wins last autumn were off a 4lb lower mark.
Overlooked horse:
Soar Above: An eight-time course winner who finished second in this race last year off an 8lb higher mark. Despite seeming to be on the decline recently and not achieving much in two runs after a break, he could surprise if he can rediscover his previous form.

- Vasilissa: Vasilissa won at this course and distance last month off a slightly lower mark, and her subsequent poor performance on soft ground can be overlooked due to an unfortunate incident during the race. She is likely to perform much better in this race.
- Gwendolina: Gwendolina has shown improvement in each of her starts to date, defeating a subsequent winner earlier this year. However, she has a tendency to pull hard during races, which was evident in her last race after returning from a break. Despite this, she is high on the shortlist.
- Fayasel: Fayasel has shown improvement since being upped to this trip, achieving a win and a second place in two runs at Wolverhampton in March. However, both those races were conducted under aggressive tactics, and his starting stall in this race might require a change in strategy, which could affect his performance.
- More Than A Grey: More Than A Grey hasn’t shown significant improvement recently, and his use of cheekpieces did not seem to help in his last race on soft ground. His first attempt at a distance beyond sprint could bring out some potential.
Overlooked horse:
Captain Wentworth: His latest performance may have been affected by soft ground, and he has a 4lb advantage over Vasilissa compared to their previous race at this course and distance. However, he tends to pull hard during races and will likely be held back again from his starting stall. If he gets a good run, he might surprise.

- Donald Llewellyn: Donald Llewellyn has two course wins and two close defeats since returning from a long layoff. His latest defeat was perhaps due to a rise in weights, but he is known to perform much better and is expected to rebound in this race.
- Anisoptera: Anisoptera achieved her third course and distance win last month off a slightly lower mark. She was not comfortable in her last race at Goodwood and will be happier back here at this course and at a lower level. She is a strong contender in this race.
- Social City: Despite being on a long losing run, Social City is arriving in fair form. He is expected to close the gap on Anisoptera, considering he is on 5lb better terms than when he was third to her over this course and distance three weeks ago.
- Tying The Knot: Tying The Knot has been inconsistent under both codes and was well held back on the Flat behind Devizes here a month ago. However, with an 8lb better off in this race and facing the stiffest test to date, there might be potential for improvement.
Overlooked Horse:
Young Endless: Despite being well beaten in three runs last summer, Young Endless is a brother to the yard’s useful course and distance winner Endless Acres and received some support on his handicap debut recently. Having raced wide off the home turn in his last race, going right-handed in this race might help and he has some potential.
