Going Good to Soft (Soft in places

  1. Moonstone Boy (IRE): With a total rating of 319.8, Moonstone Boy is the frontrunner. He has shown promise in his previous races, finishing third on his debut and improving to runner-up in his last outing. His speed rating is at 67.1, which is the highest among the five runners. His consistent performances and good speed make him the top contender in this race.
  2. Kandy House (IRE): Kandy House comes in second with a total rating of 249.7. She has only one race under her belt, in which she finished third, showing a good amount of promise. Her speed rating of 57.7 suggests she has the potential to compete well in this race. The fact that the horse that beat her in her debut went on to win a significant race strengthens her position.
  3. Golden Mind (IRE): Golden Mind is third in terms of total ratings at 83.4. He is yet to race but comes from a strong pedigree being a half-brother to a three-time 6f Group 1 winner, Perfect Power. While he lacks race experience, his pedigree and connections suggest potential.
  4. Golden Arrow (IRE): Golden Arrow has a total rating of 58.4. Like Golden Mind, he hasn’t run before but comes from a successful family, being a Havana Grey half-brother to four winners. His trainer has had success with 2-year-olds this year, which might bode well for his debut.
  5. Irish Nectar: With a total rating of 58.1, Irish Nectar is the lowest-rated horse. He is also a debutant but his dam was a Listed-placed winner, indicating some potential. His connections are reputable and he could be one to watch.

Based on the total ratings, Moonstone Boy and Kandy House stand out as the top contenders. The debutants Golden Mind, Golden Arrow, and Irish Nectar have less predictable performance due to their lack of racing experience but their strong pedigrees and connections suggest potential.

  1. Mountain Warrior (381.2)
  2. Installation (364.8)
  3. Quintus Arrius (362.2)
  4. Hour By Hour (345.9)
  5. Mereside Diva (339.1)

Mountain Warrior tops the total ratings chart, showing promising form in his two 2yo starts and making a winning return after being gelded. His pedigree suggests that he has potential and is one to watch on his handicap debut.

Installation comes next in the ratings. Despite a poor performance on his handicap and seasonal debut, he has shown promise in the past, notably dead-heating in a 5f novice at this course. With the visor back on today, he could improve on his previous performance.

Quintus Arrius, in third place based on total ratings, is a solid contender. He won a Newcastle novice and was very close on his recent handicap debut. His form is encouraging, and with a 4lb rise, he is expected to continue his progress.

Hour By Hour is fourth in total ratings. He won a nursery at this course and distance, and performed well at Pontefract on reappearance. Though he didn’t fare as well over 7f, a drop back in distance could see him put in a strong performance, especially if conditions are suitable.

Finally, Mereside Diva is another strong contender. She improved with each of her three 2yo starts, and despite suffering interference at the start on her handicap debut, she nearly won. With potential for further improvement, she is one to watch.

Additionally, based on the positive comments for horses not in the top five ratings, Braveheart Boy, Hougoumont, and Kelpie Grey could also be strong competitors. Braveheart Boy is on a competitive mark and his performance at Ripon can be upgraded due to a poor start. Hougoumont has potential on his handicap debut, having performed well last season and been gelded since. Kelpie Grey, meanwhile, went close in a novice race here and returned to form in his second start for this yard; a strongly run race may be ideal for him.

  1. My Little Queens (389.7)
  2. Casilli (374.7)
  3. Nigwa (347.3)
  4. Celtic Empress (329.5)
  5. Centre Court (327.1)

My Little Queens tops the total ratings chart. She has shown improved form when winning on last month’s reappearance at Chelmsford and came second at Doncaster since then. Her ability to perform well in different ground conditions and her previous victory at this venue make her a top contender.

Casilli is next in the ratings. She won at Beverley last July and has a good track record for her comeback runs. Her performance elsewhere also suggests she could be involved in the top positions in this race.

Nigwa, in third place based on total ratings, is a solid contender. She won a Ripon maiden last August and has had a fair fifth place since in her two handicaps. She could improve for her March comeback outing and retains potential.

Celtic Empress is fourth in the total ratings. She is a two-time course winner who scored twice last season. Although she could do with being dropped a few pounds, she could improve from her reappearance run at Musselburgh a fortnight ago.

Centre Court comes fifth in the total ratings. Her best form has come on AW, but she has won on turf, and perhaps soft ground didn’t suit when she was back on grass at Ripon last month. This 3-year-old is not to be ruled out.

Furthermore, based on positive comments for horses not in the top five ratings, Balalaika, Crown Princess, and Invisible Friend may also be strong contenders. Balalaika won a Newcastle maiden on the middle of her three 2yo runs and returned with a close third on last month’s handicap debut at Southwell. Crown Princess, having had wind surgery, ran okay in mid-division on last month’s reappearance at Beverley and could improve for that run. Invisible Friend, despite being soundly beaten on her recent handicap debut at Doncaster, has a useful pedigree which provides optimism in her potential.

Going Good to Soft (Soft in places)

  1. Dutch Decoy (Total Rating: 431.5) – This horse has the highest total score, demonstrating strong overall performance. The horse is back to his last winning mark, and his record of 2-2 at Hamilton increases interest.
  2. Whats The Story (Total Rating: 397.2) – With the second-highest total rating, this horse has shown solid performance. Although it hasn’t won in its last 11 starts, it showed some spark recently and has dropped to a dangerous mark.
  3. Shaladar (FR) (Total Rating: 396.8) – Just behind in third place, Shaladar won three times last year, including two over this course and distance. It made a promising return to action last month and could be in for another strong campaign.
  4. On A Session (USA) (Total Rating: 395.4) – On A Session returned to form and capitalised on a reduced mark in its last race. It has demonstrated strong form at 1m and is well treated despite a 6lb increase.
  5. Pisanello (IRE) (Total Rating: 384.3) – Despite being winless in 13 starts since last April, this horse has shown plenty of good runs, including a second-place finish in its last race. A return to winning ways could be imminent.

Looking beyond the total ratings and considering positive comments, several horses stand out:

  • Mostawaa has a lower total score but is now 6lb lower than when it came second in this race last year. This horse could potentially perform well given the right circumstances.
  • Perseverants was a runner-up at Doncaster and bounced back from a lesser run at Redcar with a second place at Ripon. If the conditions suit, it could be in contention.
  • Ravenglass won two in a row last August and has been a good third on both runs this year. It could be a contender if it maintains that form.
  • Young Fire won two out of his last four starts on the AW. Although he’s facing a hotter race and a higher mark on turf, he cannot be completely ruled out.

In conclusion, based on total ratings and past performance, Dutch Decoy, Whats The Story, Shaladar, On A Session, and Pisanello appear to be the top contenders. However, factors such as conditions on the day, jockey and trainer form, and the individual performance of each horse can influence the outcome of the race. The horses highlighted based on positive comments also have the potential to surprise.

  2. The Thin Blue Line (IRE)
  3. Spoof
  4. Jordan Electrics
  5. Laheg (FR)
  6. Edward Cornelius (IRE)
  7. Rock Melody (IRE)
  8. Ramon Di Loria (IRE)
  9. Huddle Up (IRE)
  10. Object
  11. Wrecked It Ralph

Now, let’s move on to the analysis of the top contenders:

Monsieur Kodi (IRE) tops the rankings with a total rating of 384. This horse is versatile regarding track types and trip, and recently secured a narrow win at Musselburgh. Although he will need to bring more to the table to keep up his winning streak, he gives the impression that he can find it this year. The stiff finish at this race could play into his favour.

The Thin Blue Line (IRE) follows closely with a total rating of 369.8. With three sprint wins under his belt in 2022, he has demonstrated significant improvement from his previous starts. He recently won at Musselburgh and could benefit from the return to a stiff finish, which he has managed well in his previous starts here. Despite being up 3lb, he is expected to perform well.

Spoof, the third-ranking horse with a total rating of 349.4, is in peak form for his new yard. He demonstrated strong performance at Ascot 11 days ago and has also shown capability on soft ground. Despite being up a further 5lb, talented Billy Loughnane will be taking off 3lb. The draw on the flank isn’t ideal, but he has a good form chance.

Jordan Electrics comes in fourth with a total rating of 337.5. He has quickly settled in for his latest trainer at 5f and managed to secure a win at Ayr ten days ago. Despite being back up 4lb, he still has a good mark to exploit. However, the condition of the ground could be a concern as his best form is on good or quicker ground.

Laheg (FR) ranks fifth with a total rating of 332.2. His turf win came in a 6f novice as a 2yo. However, he has fared much better on the AW since but was last of 11 at Lingfield in April. A 5f race on turf is a new venture for him and he would have to adapt quickly to stand a chance.

While considering positive comments of horses not in the top total ratings, Object stands out. Although he ranks 10th in the total ratings, he had some useful 2yo form for his previous yard and showed a lot more punch when third behind two good yardsticks at Thirsk last week (5f, soft). Therefore, he could be one to watch out for.

In conclusion, Monsieur Kodi (IRE) seems to be the top contender based on the total ratings, but the likes of The Thin Blue Line (IRE), Spoof, and Object might also put up a strong challenge. The condition of the ground could potentially affect the performance of Jordan Electrics.

Going Good to Soft (Soft in places)

  1. Captain Haddock (IRE): With the highest total rating of 346.9, Captain Haddock stands out as a top contender in this race. The horse had two wins in the summer of 2021 and also had a strong performance on a soft ground at Doncaster, finishing as a runner-up, six weeks ago. Given his consistent performance, Captain Haddock is likely to put up a strong showing.
  2. Fairmac: Following closely behind Captain Haddock with a total rating of 336.2, Fairmac is another notable contender. The horse showed great form in its last outing, winning at Musselburgh two weeks ago, and has been generally consistent. However, the ground condition might be a challenge as Fairmac has more to prove on soft ground.
  3. Haizoom: With a total rating of 333.8, Haizoom is the third top-rated horse in this race. Haizoom won this race last year and comes in this year with only a slightly higher mark. Having performed well on good to soft ground and maintaining form this season, Haizoom is a strong prospect.
  4. Geremia (IRE): Geremia comes in fourth in total ratings at 331.3. Known for being a slow starter, Geremia has shown good form in 2022 and was a close fourth in a valuable race at Newmarket on soft ground. This makes Geremia a horse to watch in this race.
  5. Mister Camacho (IRE): Ranked fifth with a total rating of 327.7, Mister Camacho has had minor honours in previous races and showed significant improvement in his last race, winning by nearly 8l at Catterick on soft ground. Despite the 7lb higher mark today, his recent form suggests he could be competitive.

Among the horses not at the top of the ratings, Heights Of Abraham (IRE) stands out due to his previous form, having finished second by a short head off this mark at Ayr on good to soft ground. He also had a strong performance on this course on his second outing last year after a disappointing reappearance, indicating he may do the same this year.

In summary, Captain Haddock, Fairmac, Haizoom, and Geremia are the top contenders based on total ratings. However, other horses like Heights Of Abraham and Mister Camacho could also put up a strong performance, especially considering their past achievements and the ground condition.

  1. Croeso Cymraeg (379.9)
  2. Knight Of Honour (348.3)
  3. Faylaq (338.7)
  4. Dont Look Back (334.4)
  5. Aqwaam (314.7)
  6. Dubai Leader (276.3)
  7. Belle Of Annandale (268.5)
  8. Derry Lad (267.8)
  9. Thunder Roar (192.3)
  10. Beraz (149.2)

Croeso Cymraeg, ranked first in the total ratings, has performed well in all turf races. Despite all of his wins being on good or firmer ground, he has been a runner-up on both heavy and soft ground in his two starts this season. He is expected to be a strong contender in this race.

Knight Of Honour, the second highest-rated horse, won a 1m2f maiden from nine starts for the Gosdens and also scored for his new yard in Bahrain. His recent third-place finish at Thirsk was respectable, and with the return of cheekpieces, he should put up a good performance.

Faylaq is ranked third and has three wins from 2019. He has come down the weights but has been competitive on numerous occasions, including a recent second-place finish at Hamilton. He is expected to be a solid contender in this race.

Dont Look Back, the fourth-ranked horse, pulled off a surprise win at Doncaster (1m2f, heavy) last month and finished a close second over C&D (good to soft) last Sunday. With this recent form, he could be a major player in the race.

Among the other horses, Aqwaam and Derry Lad have shown promise. Aqwaam’s sole win was at Galway (1m4f, soft) last July and has been more consistent in his two recent runs. Derry Lad, on the other hand, has a win in both 2021 and 2022 and was second of 18 at Navan (1m2f, heavy) on his latest start. Both horses could challenge the top contenders.

In conclusion, Croeso Cymraeg, Knight Of Honour, and Faylaq are the top three contenders based on their total ratings. However, Dont Look Back’s recent form, along with the potential of Aqwaam and Derry Lad, should not be overlooked. This race is shaping up to be a competitive one, with several horses capable of taking the win.
