Based on the Total ratings and the available data on recent form, my assessment of the horses in the 7.35 Windsor (10 runners) race is as follows:
- Tessy Lad (IRE) – This horse leads the pack with a total rating of 387.6. It secured three flat wins in 2022, and despite not striking off a mark this high before, its recent success in the last flat race at Wolverhampton indicates that it should be respected in this sphere on its return.
- Saligo Bay (IRE) – Coming in second on the ratings with a total of 352.1. It was a fair fourth in its last flat race at Epsom and is considered to have possibilities in this race given its drop back in grade.
- Silverscape – With a total rating of 339.4, Silverscape ranks third. The horse secured two AW wins but was held on Polytrack in its last two runs, making it something to prove back on turf. Nevertheless, judging by the pick of last season’s form, Silverscape could be a good each-way shout.
- Pride Of Nepal – Holding the fourth spot with a total rating of 334.8, Pride Of Nepal ran well on Polytrack on its return last month. As a triple turf winner, it should be shortlisted, especially considering the favourable conditions back on turf.
- Lexington Knight (IRE) – In fifth place with a total rating of 331.7, Lexington Knight is a course winner that recently ran a close race at Wolverhampton. Even though its turf record is just 1-18, it’s not hard to envisage this 5-y-o taking a hand in the finish back on turf.
Looking beyond the top five horses according to the ratings, a couple of others deserve mention based on their positive comments, despite their lower total ratings.
- Noble Masquerade – As a dual C&D winner, it could rediscover its spark on a return to fast ground, making it a potentially dangerous contender despite its lower total rating of 289.5.
- Reina Del Mar (IRE) – Although its total rating is only 295.6, Reina Del Mar was returning from a long absence with a well-held seventh at Salisbury. This lightly raced horse should be sharper now and could be a contender to consider.
In conclusion, based on the total ratings, Tessy Lad (IRE) is the top contender, followed by Saligo Bay (IRE), Silverscape, Pride Of Nepal, and Lexington Knight (IRE). However, Noble Masquerade and Reina Del Mar (IRE) could also make a considerable impact based on their past performances and comments.
