One of the great handicaps of the flat season. Here’s a few notes to help with your decision;
- Ground Conditions: Some horses have a strong preference for the soft ground and may benefit from these conditions. Aberama Gold, Aleezdancer, Bielsa, and Spanish Star are examples that could thrive on soft ground.
- Form and Recent Performance: A good recent run is usually a sign of readiness. Aberama Gold has shown strong recent form and seems to have adapted well to soft ground. Albasheer’s performance has also shown signs of readiness, with an eyecatching burst in the Wokingham.
- Class and Ability: Some horses are clearly classy and capable of a big run if they find their best form. Aphelios, for example, has shown quality but seems a bit off this season. Apollo One has been consistent this year and might be a contender, while Badri has been on a great path.
- Handicapping and Weight: Weighting and penalties can make a difference in sprint races. Bielsa and Mr Wagyu may be nicely handicapped. Tanmawwy’s penalty is offset by a good apprentice booking.
- Potential Improvers and Dark Horses: Some horses might have unexploited potential or conditions in their favour. Orazio looks to have great potential & has been well found in the market. Aleezdancer, if getting the slow ground, might be one to watch. Gorak is progressing well but might not be as favourably handicapped.
- Horses to Avoid: Some entries might be best avoided due to poor form, ground incompatibility, or other concerns. Came From The Dark, Good Earth, and Hyperfocus might fall into this category.
- Veteran Runners with a Chance: Some older horses like Summerghand remain competitive and may be in with a chance.
