Premier Race Days: A New Era in British Horseracing

British horseracing is set to experience a significant transformation with the introduction of Premier Race Days in 2024. These events, scheduled to offer a minimum prize pool of £250k on the Flat and £200k over Jumps, aim to elevate the quality and competitiveness of the sport.

Key Changes: Enhanced Prize Money:

No Flat race will be worth less than £20,000, and no Jump race less than £15,000, ensuring higher stakes and more thrilling competition.
Strategic Race Volume Reduction:

Approximately 300 races will be removed to improve the overall competitiveness of Jump racing, with a focus on quality over quantity.
Pattern Changes:

The Jump Pattern Review has led to adjustments in the racing calendar, including the removal and rescheduling of certain Novices’ Chases and the introduction of Premier Handicaps.

Innovative Trials:

The All-Weather division trial and the removal of +1/+2 in Class 5 & 6 Flat Handicaps are set to assess their impact on runner distribution and race competitiveness.

These initiatives reflect the British Horseracing Authority’s commitment to enhancing the sport’s appeal and ensuring its long-term sustainability. Premier Race Days are poised to become a cornerstone of the British racing calendar, promising to bring excitement and prestige to the industry.
