1m2f (2150 yards)

7/2 Mr Jetman 8 (4.63)

9/2 Poets Dawn 7 (5.29)

5/1 Bearwith 6 (6.17)

13/2 Leap Year Lad 5 (7.40)

8/1 Arranmore 4 (9.25)

8/1 Eetee 4 (9.25)

18/1 Woodstock City 2 (18.50)

36/1 Ey Up Its The Boss 1 (37.00)

These odds are based on the star ratings + Timeform (Available for free on the Sporting Life webpage) ratings for each horse. Mr Jetman has 5 stars and is the timeform selection. Poets Dawn has 4 stars and is their next best. Bearwith, Leap Year Lad, Arranmore & Eetee have 3 stars and are ranked by their Timeform Rating. (Arranmore & Eetee have the same Timeform rating so are ranked equally) Woodstock City has 2 stars. Ey Up Its The Boss has 1 star.

As there are 8 runners, top ranked Mr Jetman is given a score of 8, Poets Dawn 7 and so on down to the bottom ranked Eye Up Its Maggie who gets a score of 1.

The scores are added together which gives a final score of 37.

You then divide the total score by each runners score. Mr Jetman gets 4.63 (37/8) which can be compared to the Exchange odds ( around 7/2 with the bookmakers)

Poets Dawn gets 5.29 (37/7) around 9/2 with the bookmakers and so on. In the case of non runners you just readjust the scores using the same method.

If you wanted to bet without Mr Jetman (Most bookmakers offer this option) Just subtract Mr Jetmans score from the total score (37-8 = 29) So say you want to back Bearwith without Mr Jetman divide 29 by 6 which equals 4.83 (around 4/1)

I have used the sporting life/ Timeform ratings as an example (They are free when you sign up and log in) but you can use your own way of ranking the runners, the method is the same.

It’s 8pm on Monday evening and most firms have prices up. There is a disparity between Timeform & the layers with regards to Ey Up It’s The Boss. Timeform don’t rate his chances while the layers are keen to keep him onside.

My TimeWise rankings agree with the layers and my own tissue would have him at 7/2 with Mr Jetman at 4/1.

Horse racing is subjective of course, a mixture of Science and Art, it’s what made me fall in love with it. Even a class 5 apprentice handicap on a Tuesday at Ripon can be fascinating and when you get it right there is a great thrill.🏇

It’s just after 11 am now, here’s how the market looks on the exchange ⤵️

Bearwith has been strong in the early exchanges ⤵️

Poets Dawn has been very weak ⤵️

Woodstock City defied his odds to get up in the final furlong.

Ey Up Its The Boss ran really well but tired late on

Mr Jetman didn’t get a clear run up the rail, probably should have finished 2nd.

Bearwith blew the start and blew his chances.

Poets Dawn was a big drifter and finished 2nd from last.
