Rising Star: Willitgoahead (IRE)

·

Willitgoahead (IRE) is quickly making a name for himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the hunter chase scene, following an impressive performance in the Hunter Chase at Thurles on 19 January 2025. Trained and owned by Sean Thomas Doyle, the seven-year-old bay gelding is showing all the hallmarks of a horse destined for bigger stages.

Sired by Getaway (GER) out of Vin Fizz (IRE), with Vinnie Roe (IRE) as the dam’s sire, Willitgoahead has already demonstrated his class and potential. Before transitioning to Rules racing, he enjoyed success on the point-to-point circuit, where he ran in nine races, securing four wins, a second place, and two thirds. This strong foundation has clearly prepared him for the demands of the professional scene.

Since moving to racing under Rules, Willitgoahead has continued to impress, with two starts yielding a win and a second place, maintaining an unblemished record of finishing in the frame. His debut came in a Maiden Hunter Chase at Limerick on 29 December 2024, where he finished second over 2m6½f on yielding-to-soft ground. Leading for much of the race, he was only beaten in the closing strides, showing clear signs of ability and determination.

His second outing at Thurles was a different story. Competing in the Racing Again Feb. 6th Hunters Chase over 3m1f on good ground, he overcame a slow start to position himself perfectly under jockey Mr J L Scallan (7). Taking charge after the third-last fence, he powered home to win by 3.5 lengths, displaying both stamina and tactical nous.

What sets Willitgoahead apart is his versatility, handling varying track conditions with ease. This adaptability is a key asset in the unpredictable world of hunter chasing, and his pedigree and performances so far suggest he’s only getting better.

His recent win has caught the attention of the betting markets, with punters beginning to take notice. There is growing anticipation that he could soon feature in high-profile events, including the Cheltenham Festival Hunter Chase. These shifts in market confidence may also influence his future race plans.

At seven years old, Willitgoahead is reaching the prime age for a hunter chaser, and his ability to dictate races and finish strongly bodes well for stepping up to tougher challenges.

In summary, Willitgoahead (IRE) is living up to his name, proving himself a force to be reckoned with on the hunter chase circuit. Racing fans and punters alike should keep him firmly on their radar as he continues his rise through the ranks.
