ARLECCHINO’S REX – Strongest Contender with Market Overlook

While Invincible Melody is understandably well-fancied on his handicap debut for a powerful yard, the market might be slightly underestimating ARLECCHINO’S REX, who looks primed to go one better after a highly encouraging second at Kempton last time.

What stands out is how well Arlecchino’s Rex travelled in that Kempton run, only finding one too good in a race that developed late. His in-running Betfair SP touched less than half of his starting price, suggesting strong support from those watching the race unfold. This indicates not just a horse in form but one that has been underestimated mid-race by the market.

The first-time hood could be a key addition today, helping him settle and focus when it matters most. He’s already proven over this trip and surface, with his previous win at Wolverhampton showing he can handle the Tapeta. The pace setup today looks ideal too—he’s unlikely to be caught too far back, which is critical given that hold-up horses tend to struggle over this trip at Wolverhampton.

Mark Usher’s record when sending just one runner to a flat meeting is another overlooked positive, showing a £34.68 profit to a £1 level stake. With David Probert in the saddle, a jockey who knows how to judge pace perfectly on the all-weather, everything seems aligned for a strong performance.

At 9/2, he represents solid value against a favourite whose running style may not suit today’s conditions. Kaleidoscope Eyes is another potential threat if allowed an uncontested lead, but Arlecchino’s Rex looks the one with both the form and tactical advantage to capitalise.

Recommendation:
Back ARLECCHINO’S REX (9/2) to win. The market seems to have priced him fairly, but his in-running strength, tactical speed, and the first-time hood could unlock further improvement that isn’t fully factored in yet.
