Wolverhampton 19:30 – A Strong Case for Busby at Value Odds
While the market has understandably latched onto High Court Judge as the form horse bidding for a four-timer, there’s reason to believe Busby (11/2) offers some overlooked value in this 1m4f handicap.
Busby has been in cracking form this winter, winning at Southwell before finishing runner-up on three consecutive occasions. Importantly, the pace dynamics tonight could tilt in his favour. The Wolverhampton track tends to favour those racing prominently, especially when the predicted pace isn’t overly strong, as is the case here. Unlike some rivals who prefer to be held up (Sense of Worth, Green Team), Busby races handily and should find himself in an ideal stalking position just behind the leaders.
There’s also an element the market might be missing. On his last run at Newcastle, Busby traded at significantly shorter odds in-running than his SP, indicating he was travelling well before just finding one too good late on. That consistent ability to get into contention is a positive sign, especially in a field where several others have question marks over their finishing efforts.
With a 3lb claimer on board to ease the weight burden further and proven form on the Tapeta surface, Busby looks set to outrun his current price. While High Court Judge is rightly the favourite, at the prices, Busby represents a solid each-way alternative in a race where his tactical speed and recent form could be underestimated by the market.
