Newcastle 17:30 – A Quiet Market Overlooks This Contender
While the market has shown some early interest in Streak Lightning and Tasever, there’s a case to be made for Harlem Nights (currently trading around 5/1) as the value pick in this field.
Harlem Nights returned from a short break with a solid third at Wolverhampton, and crucially, he races off a 1 lb lower mark today. What the market may be underestimating is his ability to perform off this mark, coupled with the race dynamics favouring his running style. The pace forecast suggests a weak early tempo, which might hinder hold up horses like Streak Lightning. In contrast, Harlem Nights has shown the ability to stay on strongly from a prominent position, which could be decisive here.
Another point the market may have overlooked is the in-running data from his last race. Harlem Nights traded as low as 25% of his starting Betfair SP before fading late, indicating he had more in the tank than the bare result suggests. This drop in weight, combined with an ideal setup in terms of pace, positions him perfectly to capitalise.
The adjusted ratings also reinforce his chance, putting him level at the top with Bobby Joe Leg, though Harlem Nights arguably has more scope for improvement at this stage of his career.
At current prices, Harlem Nights represents solid value, and with the right ride, he could easily outperform his odds.
