Pace & Race Dynamics

Pace Forecast: Weak pace expected.

Pace Angle: A slow-run race could favour those with a turn of foot rather than strong stayers. If any horse takes control early, they could be tough to peg back.

Horse-by-Horse Analysis

1. LIVE AID (IRE) (16/1)

Poor bumper form, now switched to the flat.

Declan Carroll not a noted debut trainer on the AW.

Likely to struggle unless improvement is sudden.

2. SAWGRASS (25/1)

Outpaced and beaten 12½ lengths over 11f at Kempton.

Bred for further, so this drop in trip may not help.

Unlikely to feature prominently.

3. TAPIS ROUGE (IRE) (8/1)

Ran well when second at Southwell over 8.1f (1½L behind Tuscan Star).

Ran from the front in that race; if he does the same in a weak pace scenario, he could be dangerous.

Mark Prescott’s runners often improve with racing.

4. TRANSPARENT (IRE) (4/5 Fav)

Won last time at Kempton (7f) when odds-on, showing a good turn of foot.

Extra furlong should suit on breeding.

The one to beat, but odds are short.

5. FRANCIS DRAKE (IRE) (13/2)

Well-bred, related to useful French winners.

Trained by Simon & Ed Crisford (24% winter strike rate).

No racecourse experience, but market confidence would be telling.

6. MALAY MASSAMAN (100/1)

Well beaten in two runs, including by 15.5 lengths last time.

No form to suggest a challenge here.

7. BOUBOULE (25/1)

Fourth of six last time, beaten 4.5 lengths at Southwell.

Form looks modest, may find this tough.

8. QUICKLY (GER) (9/2)

Encouraging debut, third behind Almosh’her at Southwell.

Related to decent German winners.

Will improve and is an each-way player.

Verdict & Betting Strategy

Likely Winner: TRANSPARENT (4/5)

Progressive profile, should improve over a mile.

Won well last time and looks the class angle.

Short price but hard to oppose.

Each-Way Value: TAPIS ROUGE (8/1) & QUICKLY (9/2)

Tapis Rouge: Front-runner who could dictate in a slow race.

Quickly: Solid debut, open to improvement.

Dark Horse: FRANCIS DRAKE (13/2)

Well-bred and from a strong yard.

Market check needed—any strong support would be significant.
