7:00 Dundalk – Strongest Contender & Market Oversights

Tonight’s 7:00 at Dundalk looks a competitive handicap on paper, but ELEGANT MADAME (10/3) makes plenty of appeal as the strongest contender based on recent evidence. She was beaten just a short head over this course and distance last week, producing a career-best effort in the process. That performance strongly suggests she is ahead of her current mark, and with a more efficient ride, she can go one better.

The race is likely to be run at an even pace, which should suit her running style, and her low draw (stall 3) is a big plus at Dundalk, where high numbers are often at a disadvantage over a mile. She’s shown consistency, handles this surface well, and W.M. Lordan’s 35% strike rate on favourites adds further confidence.

The market may have undervalued the claims of PERFECT JUDGEMENT (9/2), who has won his last two starts over this course and trip. While he’s up in the weights, he proved last time that he can finish strongly off a solid pace, and given the even tempo expected, he could well be finishing best of all again.

The most overlooked horse could be PUNK POET (10/1). The Timeform pace hints suggest that this race could play to his strengths, and while he’s been out of form recently, his best efforts at this track make him an interesting outsider. He traded at less than half his BFSP in-running when beaten last time, indicating there was more to his run than the bare result. If the money comes for him, he could be worth chancing in the place market.

Verdict:

Best Bet: ELEGANT MADAME (10/3) – Very unlucky last time, well-drawn, should be hard to beat.

Value Play: PERFECT JUDGEMENT (9/2) – Improving, proven over C&D, still unexposed at this level.

Market Oversight: PUNK POET (10/1) – Likely to be suited by the race setup, could be overpriced.

With conditions in her favour, Elegant Madame is the one to beat, but Perfect Judgement’s recent form and Punk Poet’s profile suggest they could be underestimated by the market.
