3:15 Haydock – Grand National Trial Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) – 3m4f97y

·

The Haydock Grand National Trial often rewards proven stayers who relish heavy ground and can grind out a finish in a true test of stamina. This year’s renewal looks competitive, but a couple of runners stand out as potential value plays against the market leader.

Strongest Contender: Yeah Man (4/1)
A previous winner of this race, Yeah Man knows what it takes to conquer Haydock’s gruelling conditions. His recent fourth in the Thyestes Handicap at Gowran Park can be upgraded—he was caught further back than ideal in a race where front-runners dominated. Despite that, his closing sectionals were strong, indicating that he retains his form. Proven over extreme distances and with cheekpieces retaining his focus, he rates a solid bet to regain his crown.

Market Overlooked: Jubilee Express (10/1)
Jubilee Express shaped extremely well when chasing home Val Dancer in the Welsh Grand National last time, finishing with running left after a less-than-ideal passage. He is open to further improvement and could easily reverse that form here, especially if a strong pace materialises. At double-figure odds, he offers genuine value.

Other Considerations:

Apple Away (5/1) returns to handicap company after a solid listed effort at Newbury. She’s a prominent racer who could get first run on the field.

Val Dancer (9/1) brings top staying form from the Welsh National but might find it harder to dominate with other front-runners lining up.

Verdict: Yeah Man has the credentials to regain his title, but Jubilee Express represents excellent value if the race sets up for a closer. A solid case can also be made for Apple Away, who could capitalise if the main contenders falter.
