5:10 Punchestown (16th February 2025) – Bumper Preview

·

In this 1m7f bumper at Punchestown, Gameofinches stands out as the strongest contender. Representing the formidable W. P. Mullins yard and ridden by the highly successful Mr P. W. Mullins, this horse boasts an easy point-to-point win and a pedigree linked to proven jumpers. With Mullins saddling three winners in the past five renewals of this race and the jockey maintaining a 25% strike rate at the track and 45% on bumper favourites, the credentials are compelling.

However, the market may be underestimating Begorra Man. Gavin Cromwell’s charge showed promise when fifth in a competitive Leopardstown maiden hurdle. With improvement expected, given his pedigree that includes the smart hurdler Campeador, and Cromwell’s ability to bring on young talent, he offers potential value.

Cosmos D’ainay also deserves consideration. A point winner with a strong French jumping lineage, Gordon Elliott’s runner could pose a threat if the market drifts.

Additionally, Casterly Rock may not be on many radars but could run better than his odds suggest. The even pace forecast suits him, and he could find the race unfolding to his advantage.

Gameofinches remains the likely winner, but keep a close watch on Begorra Man and Casterly Rock as potential value plays if the market overlooks them closer to race time.
