1:52 LINGFIELD PARK – GAMBLE RESPONSIBLY AT BETMGM HANDICAP (CLASS 4, 1M 1Y, 4YO+)

·

This is a competitive handicap with several runners bringing solid all-weather form to the table, but one horse stands out as the strongest contender, while another seems slightly overlooked by the market.

Strongest Contender: REY DE LA BATALLA (5/1)

Simon Dow’s gelding arrives here in excellent form, having scored convincingly over course and distance last time out. He benefited from an astute ride that day, but the performance was backed up by strong sectionals, particularly in the final two furlongs where he found plenty under pressure. His previous efforts include wins at both Lingfield and Kempton, showing versatility across all-weather surfaces. A repeat of his latest effort should see him go very close again, and the current odds offer fair value for a horse that appears to be improving.

Market Value Pick: CAVALRY CALL (9/2)

While the market is giving Cavalry Call respect, his chances could still be slightly underestimated. He ran creditably when fourth at Southwell last time out after a short break, and that effort can be upgraded given he was involved in a strong pace throughout. He has shown he can dictate from the front, and in a race lacking obvious pace pressure, he could get the ideal scenario to dominate. With Billy Loughnane booked – a jockey in fine form – he offers appeal at the current price, particularly with proven form on polytrack and tapeta.

Both selections have strong form credentials, are well-suited to the conditions, and have tactical advantages in a race that may not be run at a furious pace. Rey De La Batalla edges it as the strongest contender given his recent winning form, but Cavalry Call is a worthy value alternative.
