The QuinnBet Beginners Chase at Punchestown presents a competitive field, but High Class Hero stands out as the strongest contender. A five-time winner over hurdles, including a listed novice event at Limerick, his proven ability on heavy ground and strong finishing speed over 3m sets him apart. His chasing debut saw him finish a close second to Shannon Royale at this track, despite an 8-month layoff. With that run under his belt, further improvement is expected, and the Mullins yard has an excellent record in similar contests.

However, while High Class Hero’s credentials are clear, the market may be slightly underestimating Loughglynn. Also trained by Mullins, Loughglynn’s Grade 2 hurdle win last season marked him as a horse of quality. His fifth behind Three Card Brag at Navan last time can be upgraded, given he was prominent throughout on testing ground and kept on well despite the strong opposition. As a front-runner who relishes soft/heavy conditions, his prominent style could give him an edge in a small field, particularly if he dictates the pace.

Mint Boy also merits consideration as a potential value pick. His third to Search For Glory at Galway in October was a clear indication of his ability, and his previous hurdle wins on heavy ground highlight his suitability to conditions. With Gavin Cromwell’s yard in strong form, Mint Boy could be one to outrun his odds if he builds on his chasing promise.

While High Class Hero’s form and potential make him the one to beat, those looking beyond the favourite may find value in Loughglynn, whose front-running style and proven stamina could pose a serious threat, especially if left alone up front.

Strongest Contender: High Class Hero
Value Pick: Loughglynn.
