Race Preview: 16:23 Naas – TOTE Irish EBF Devoy Stakes (Listed)

·

A competitive renewal of this Listed contest, run over 1m2½f on testing ground, with several proven stakes performers returning for seasonal campaigns. Pace is forecast to be even, and low draws may offer an advantage, which could prove crucial in the soft-to-heavy conditions.

Strongest Contender – SUNCHART

Course-and-distance winner SUNCHART looks primed to run a big race. He matches the historical Timeform Race Winner (TRW) standard of 116, has Listed-winning form at this very track, and shaped much better than the bare result on his final 2024 start when denied a run. He’s well drawn in stall 4, handles testing ground, and should get the ideal race setup given his prominent run style. At around 5/1, he represents the best mix of class, proven ability, and value.

Main Dangers:

BRAVAIS boasts the standout figure in the race with a Timeform rating of 122, having finished third in a Group 2 last time in France. He’s now with the shrewd Ger Lyons yard and is well drawn in stall 2. If fully fit after a long layoff, he could outclass this field — but the 560-day absence is a big question mark.

TRUSTYOURINSTINCT ran respectably in the Group 2 Neom Turf Cup last time and has strong Listed and Group 3 form from 2024. He’s consistent and tough, but his figures suggest he’s plateaued around the 116 mark. At short odds, he’s respected but not outstanding value.

UNCANNY is an intriguing improver. He’s unexposed, has a “p” (potential) rating from Timeform, and won stylishly at this track in October. While his form isn’t yet Listed level, he’s a possible breakthrough performer and a fair price at 10/1.

Dark Horse – STAR HARBOUR

Although not a fashionable choice, STAR HARBOUR posted a Timeform rating of 118 last season and has repeatedly run well in decent company. He’s a tricky ride and needs things to fall right, but at 25/1, he offers real each-way value if a pace collapse plays to his strengths.

Verdict:

SUNCHART looks the most solid contender with the fewest question marks and a fair price. Bravais and Trustyourinstinct are class threats, while Uncanny and Star Harbour are potential improvers and value dangers.

> 1st – SUNCHART
2nd – BRAVAIS
3rd – UNCANNY / STAR HARBOUR (each-way angle)
