Just four go to post for this small-field Class 3 handicap chase, but it’s a tactically intriguing contest over 2m3½f on good ground. With little pace forecast, race position and jumping efficiency will be key.
Strongest Contender – Issar D’airy (9/4)
Gary and Josh Moore’s 7-year-old brings the strongest recent form and sits top of the adjusted ratings. He bounced back with a solid second at Sandown last time, handling both trip and ground well, and that race has already started to work out. With a career-high Timeform rating of 138 and conditions to suit, he looks primed to go one better today. Despite giving weight all round, his proven stamina, strong yard stats, and race-fitness edge mark him out as the one to beat.
Main Danger – Ostend (4/1)
Though more lightly raced and coming from a lower official mark, Ostend shapes as a potential danger given the likely tactical setup. He’s the only confirmed prominent runner, which could prove a big advantage in a race lacking natural pace. His form has been inconsistent, but a recent third at Bangor was encouraging, and the Ralph yard has a good track record here. If allowed a soft lead, he could steal a tactical advantage.
Verdict: Issar D’airy looks the most reliable option with form, ratings, and conditions all in his favour. Ostend could be the one to give him most to think about if he gets an uncontested lead.
No each-way options in a 4-runner field – it’s win-only betting territory.
