15:00 Newcastle – Sunday Lunch At The Border Minstrel Novices’ Handicap Chase (2m7f91y, Class 5, Good to Soft)Pace Forecast: Very Weak – front-runners favoured

·

This looks a winnable affair for one of the more progressive types in a field where few inspire confidence. The lack of early pace could be crucial, with up-front position likely a big advantage on this drying ground.

Strongest Contender – Community Rebel
James Ewart’s 9-year-old made a cracking start to chasing when runner-up here two weeks ago, sticking on gamely despite a mistake at the last. That form has already been boosted and he shaped as though the longer trip would suit. With race fitness assured, a good record fresh from wind surgery, and the promise of better positioning in this slowly-run race, Community Rebel looks the one to beat.

Main Dangers – Shesupincourt & Toombridge
Shesupincourt arrives in fair nick, having bolted up at Leicester before chasing home a sharper rival last time. She’s quirky but should be on the pace and has fewer question marks than most.
Toombridge is the wildcard – lightly raced and unlucky last time when still going well before falling two out. He tends to be held up, which isn’t ideal in this setup, but if Alan Doyle gets him involved earlier, he’s handicapped to run a big race.

Summary:
Community Rebel is the most solid option and looks the one they all have to beat if building on his chase debut. Shesupincourt is the likeliest to capitalise if the favourite underperforms, while Toombridge has a squeak if things fall his way tactically.
