A small field of five lines up for this staying mares’ handicap, but there’s a clear standout on paper in LA DOLCE DOLLY, who looks poised to continue her upward trajectory for the in-form Andy Irvine team.
La Dolce Dolly arrives on the back of an impressive Plumpton success over a similar trip, where she travelled strongly and found plenty for pressure. That was her first go at 3m+, and the way she stayed on suggests there’s more to come at this level. The weak pace forecast plays right into her front-running strengths, and with only a 4lb rise to contend with, she’s very much the one to beat. Timeform notes she’s improving fast, and the race setup looks tailor-made for her.
The main danger could come from Komedy Kicks, who has form in the book with back-to-back wins earlier in the season. Dan Skelton’s mare is well-handicapped based on her peak efforts, and the booking of promising 7lb claimer Harry Atkins offsets her big weight. However, her stamina over this longer trip is unproven, and she was pulled up last time when tried beyond 2m5f, which raises a few questions.
Briefly is respected on course form and represents the shrewd Anthony Honeyball yard, but she’s coming off a flat third of three just a week ago and may find things happening a bit quickly if the pace lifts late. Her jumping can be patchy, and she may need things to fall right.
Calli Black and Pure Theatre have enough ability to grab minor money, but both return from breaks and have stamina to prove, especially in a race where tactical positioning could be key.
Verdict:
La Dolce Dolly has the best recent form, strongest adjusted rating, and race conditions in her favour. She’s the clear standout and looks excellent value at current prices.
Main danger: Komedy Kicks, if staying the trip.
Place squeak: Briefly, but she’ll need a cleaner round of jumping.
