A trappy seven-runner handicap chase where several have bits and pieces of form but also plenty to prove. With a weak pace expected, positioning and jumping efficiency will be critical.

Strongest Contender: DUNSTALL RAMBLER
Tom George’s Dunstall Rambler looks the likeliest winner on balance. He’s been progressive in similar events this winter, winning twice (including here at Wincanton) before a solid runner-up effort last time. While the bare margin was only a neck, he made a bad mistake three out and still rallied well. He’s prone to the odd error, but he stays this trip, handles good ground, and seems to relish the track. With Jonathan Burke in the saddle and the weak pace unlikely to inconvenience his prominent running style too much, he sets a solid standard.

Main Dangers:
Another Folly
Was second here in December and shaped okay in novice handicaps before a flat effort in January. The 75-day break is a concern, but he’s well treated and will be suited by a steady gallop. Trainer Jane Williams tends to ready them fresh, so he can bounce back.
Abingworth
Has a patchy profile but hinted at a revival when third at Taunton last time and is back down to a winnable mark. Has winning form over course and distance and could easily run well again if avoiding mistakes.
Shillanavogy
Won at Fontwell in December and was a close third last time. Stamina is his strength, but the pace scenario might not suit if they crawl early. Still, he’s a consistent sort for the grade and cannot be ruled out.

Not today?
Birdman Bob has had many chances and may struggle for tactical speed in a slowly-run race.
My Rockstar has placed form and a recent win, but isn’t totally reliable and may be better when allowed to dictate a stronger pace.
Gladiatus has shown little over fences so far and is a big price for a reason.

Verdict
Dunstall Rambler is the solid option – proven at the track, in form, and with fewer question marks than most. He can outstay this field if he keeps the errors to a minimum.
The best value danger could be Another Folly, who drops in class and has strong past efforts here.
Abingworth is next best, especially if building on his recent return to form.
