A deep and intriguing field lines up for the traditional Aintree Festival bumper finale, and it’s no surprise to see multiple smart prospects with elite pedigrees and winning form. The pace forecast is very strong, and that’s a key detail – it sets this up for closers and late movers rather than front-runners who might burn out. Proven stamina and the ability to handle a strongly-run race are big positives here.
âś… Strongest Contender
đźź© MOSSY FEN ROAD (Harry Derham, Paul O’Brien)
- Timeform TFR: 121p | Adj: 116+
- Half-brother to Fury Road, this €75k buy looked seriously exciting when bounding 4L clear at Wetherby on debut. Travelled smoothly and quickened like a proper tool.
- Timeform comment: “looked exciting prospect… much better to come.”
- That performance came off the back of a win in an Irish point and he shapes like one of the few in here who could be Grade 1 class.
- Strong traveller + finishing kick = perfect profile for this race setup.
🔥 Main Dangers
🟨 EL CAIROS (Gary & Josh Moore, Mr David Maxwell)
- TFR: 131+
- Massive leap forward to finish 5th in the Champion Bumper, beaten less than 5L despite being bumped late.
- Previous win at Newbury was very tidy, and he’s proven against high-level opposition.
- Timeform comment: “much improved… keeping on when bumped over 1f out” (Cheltenham).
- If he’s over Cheltenham, he’s the class horse. Has the run style to suit this pace.
🟨 LE LABO (Joseph O’Brien, Mr J. L. Gleeson)
- TFR: 118p
- Won on debut at Thurles, still showing greenness. Closely related to Binocular, and cost €100k+ equivalent.
- Timeform comment: “overcame inexperience… still had a good look around… open to improvement.”
- That Thurles race is working out and he’s likely improving rapidly.
🟨 KOKTAIL BRUT (Gordon Elliott, Mr H. C. Swan)
- TFR: 126
- 4th in the same Grade 2 at Leopardstown as Green Splendour – ran well under pressure but sat close to a strong pace, which might be tough to repeat here.
- Still, very consistent, and Timeform rate his performances well.
- Timeform comment: “useful form in bumpers” – respected on substance.
🧪 Also Worth Noting
- QUAVISTE: Lightly raced, 113+ on debut, travelled well before digging in late. Progressive.
- Timeform: “sure to progress.”
- CRACKERJACQUE: Big step up at Sandown last time, won well on heavy ground – question is ground/pace today.
- SCOPE TO IMPROVE: De Bromhead + Rachael Blackmore combo, slick Naas winner. Big physical type, may need further but has the right profile.
- GREEN SPLENDOUR (W.P. Mullins): Has experience in Graded company, but might find this a bit sharp if they go very quick. Still, can’t rule out anything from Closutton.
