šŸ‡ Race Preview – 16:30 Chelmsford, Friday 18 April 2025

bet365 Conditions Stakes (Class 2) | 3yo | 6f | Standard (AW)

⭐ Strongest Contender: SKY MAJESTY (IRE)

Trainer: William Haggas | Jockey: Tom Marquand
Timeform: 124p – unbeaten; ā€œlooked every inch the smart filly she’s bred to be.ā€

The star act in the field. She’s 3 from 3 as a juvenile, taking a Group 2 at Chantilly on heavy ground last October with style—TFR 123+ there, beating winners from Group races. Haggas has gone softly-softly so far this spring, so turning up here on AW with Marquand up looks a Go Day. The Timeform profile screams ā€œGroup 1 prospect,ā€ and her race style (stalk-and-pounce) is ideal for Chelmsford.

āš ļø Trainer Watch: Haggas won this race in 2022 with Tiber Flow (also off a break), and this looks a very similar plot.

šŸ“Œ Verdict: Looks to have 7–10lbs in hand on adjusted TimeWise figs. Serious filly.

šŸ”„ Main Dangers:

🟔 JOUNCY

Trainer: Andrew Balding | Jockey: Ryan Moore
Timeform: 110 – ā€œplaced at Group 3 level; acts on polytrack.ā€

Two solid G3 runs at Kempton and Newmarket last year. Second to Symbol of Strength in the Sirenia and should enjoy this surface. Balding has had 3 runners placed in this race since 2017 but no win—Jouncy could break that duck. Looks to be fully tuned up (no headgear now), and Moore’s booking raises eyebrows.

šŸŽÆ Who’s Trying? Balding/Moore combo with a proven juvenile = clear go day vibes. Race-fit, solid form, definite E/W appeal.

🟔 SAYIDAH DARIYAN (IRE)

Trainer: Richard Hughes | Jockey: William Buick
Timeform: 113p – ā€œ13-length maiden winner, did too much too soon in Listed race.ā€

Absolutely bolted up on the AW at Lingfield in a maiden (Timeform p105+) and then ran too freely in a Dundalk Listed. Hughes is quietly effective at Chelmsford (21% strike rate), and this filly could be underestimated. She’s bred to stay further, so a strong pace or even tempo would help her get involved late.

šŸ•µļø Go Day or Handbrake? Buick riding. AW listed performer. Hughes doesn’t waste bullets in small-field conditions stakes—suspect she’s here to run well, not just stretch her legs.

āš ļø ā€˜Watch Closely’ Angle:

🟠 ANDESITE

Trainer: Karl Burke | Jockey: Jamie Spencer
Timeform: 106 – ā€œLooked useful on debut, green in the Gimcrack.ā€

Smashed a York novice on debut, then straight into the deep end in the G2 Gimcrack. Wasn’t ready then and hasn’t been seen since. Could improve tons, especially on the AW where Burke has a sneaky good strike rate with his 3yo second-season sprinters.

šŸ¤” Go Day or Handbrake? Spencer booked, long break, but this could be a soft comeback before Royal Ascot. If the money comes late, it’ll tell you everything. For now, he’s a “watch the market closely” candidate.

🚨 ā€˜Handbrake Jobs’ Suspects:

šŸ”“ MR LIGHTSIDE (IRE)

Trainer: Michael Appleby | Jockey: Kevin Stott

High early speed 5f type, looked exposed last season. Not disgraced in the Molecomb, but nothing in his profile suggests he’s here to win this.

🧯 Might be a rabbit to ensure a proper pace. Appleby’s better with hard-knocking handicappers, not in spring conditions stakes with 3yo’s. Not a betting proposition unless he front-runs into a fluke place.

šŸ”“ LIBERALISED

Trainer: James Horton | Jockey: Jason Hart

Looked out of depth at Chantilly LTO and blew out at Newbury prior. May still be catching up physically.

🚫 Likely outclassed here. If she gets near, the rest will have massively underperformed.

šŸ’¬ Final Take:

Sky Majesty looks one of the most exciting 3yo fillies around based on her 2yo achievements, and this looks like a deliberate launchpad. Her rivals, Jouncy and Sayidah Dariyan, have strong place chances, but they’ll need Sky Majesty to underperform to beat her.

Unless the market roars for Andesite, this looks like a Sky Majesty win, Jouncy E/W, and Sayidah Dariyan the wildcard. Keep an eye out for movement in Sayidah’s price—Buick doesn’t ride no-hopers.
