18:35 Punchestown – JP & M Doyle (C & G) I.N.H. Flat Race (4yo–7yo, 2m 94y, Yielding)

·

A competitive 14-runner INH Flat race to close out the Thursday card at Punchestown. The contest is confined to geldings aged four to seven and regularly unearths a smart type – Willie Mullins has won three of the last five renewals (including Ballyburn in 2023 and Dysart Dynamo in 2021), often with horses carrying untapped potential.

Strongest Contenders

🟩 Ksar Fatal (TFR 118p, Adjusted 128)

Trainer: W. P. Mullins | Jockey: Mr P. W. Mullins
Looked a horse of real quality when scoring decisively in a Gowran Park bumper, extending well clear off a strong gallop. An easy point winner before that, his sectionals and style mark him out as a smart prospect. He gets a pace setup to suit, and Mullins has an exceptional record in this race. The market should reflect confidence, but anything above 2/1 may still be fair.

🟩 El Cairos (TFR 121, Adjusted 124)

Trainer: Gary Moore | Jockey: Mr David Maxwell
A £200,000 purchase with pedigree and punch. He shaped particularly well in the Champion Bumper, finishing fifth behind Bambino Fever – the best form on offer in this field. The booking of David Maxwell is unconventional at this level, but the horse’s Newbury win and gritty Cheltenham effort justify his place among the favourites.

🟨 Koktail Brut (TFR 116, Adjusted 121)

Trainer: Gordon Elliott | Jockey: Mr H. C. Swan
This consistent Elliott bumper performer ran third behind Green Splendour at Aintree (a race where El Cairos was behind) and brings solid, rather than flashy, credentials. Rated 116 by Timeform, he’s tactically versatile and won’t mind the pace. A reliable yardstick, and may offer place value if the top two fluff their lines.

Main Dangers

🟨 Dani Donadoni (TFR 106p, Adjusted 117)

Trainer: W. P. Mullins | Jockey: Miss J. Townend
A smooth 7-length winner at Limerick on debut, where the runner-up Powerful Paddy reopposes. While he was workmanlike rather than explosive, he’s from a good staying family and looks open to significant improvement. Given the Mullins second-string trend in this race (e.g. Tag Man winning in 2022), he shouldn’t be dismissed lightly. However, with a 30-day layoff and less hype, watch for market signals before committing.

🟨 He Can’t Dance (TFR 117, Adjusted 119)

Trainer: Gordon Elliott | Jockey: Mr J. H. Williamson (7)
Another to emerge from the Champion Bumper, where he faded late having raced handily. That effort came after a tidy Navan win and connections clearly think he’s capable. However, with a strong pace predicted, he may once again be vulnerable late on unless ridden more conservatively.

Interesting Outsiders / Each-Way Angles (8+ Runners)

🟦 Goldinthemountains (TFR 114, Adjusted 116)

Trainer: Martin Brassil | Jockey: Mr D. O’Connor
A faller on hurdling debut, he remains a horse with useful bumper form from Leopardstown and shaped like he could go on. With a 126-day absence, watch the market carefully, but the booking of Davy O’Connor and his earlier visual impression make him one of the more intriguing at double-figure prices.

🟦 Baron Noir (TFR 109, Adjusted 113)

Trainer: Alan King | Jockey: Mr R. James (7)
A Listed bumper third at Newbury last time shows he’s improving with racing. While the UK-to-Ireland switch is tough in bumpers, his profile is upwardly mobile and he could sneak a place under the radar.

Trainer Trends to Note

  • W. P. Mullins has won four of the last ten editions of this race and saddles two strong chances in Ksar Fatal and Dani Donadoni.
  • Gordon Elliott, another regular feature in this race, runs both He Can’t Dance and Koktail Brut, both of whom have Champion Bumper experience.
  • Gary Moore sends two runners, including the well-regarded El Cairos, bidding to land a notable Irish win with his best bumper horse this season.

Timeform Hints & Profile Notes

  • The pace forecast is strong, which should suit those held up or who settle mid-div. This could negatively affect He Can’t Dance who tends to race up with the pace.
  • Dani Donadoni is flagged for hitting double his BSP in-running last time before winning, suggesting there’s more under the bonnet.
  • Trainer strike rates: W. P. Mullins (25% at Punchestown), P. W. Mullins (27% jockey strike rate here) – these are positive profiles in the context of bumper success.

🧭 Summary

  • Likeliest winner: Ksar Fatal – form, pedigree and setup all point to another Mullins bumper gem.
  • Solid danger: El Cairos – brings proper Champion Bumper class.
  • Each-way angle: Goldinthemountains – if supported late, he’s a major sleeper.
  • Dark horse: Dani Donadoni – needs a step up, but might just take it.
