20:00 Wolverhampton, Tuesday 6th May 2025Weekend Winners on At The Races Handicap (Class 6, 0–62) | 3yo only | 7f 36y | Standard | 11 runners declared🏇👇

·

A competitive low-grade three-year-old handicap, where several unexposed types clash over the sharp seven-furlong trip. With no strong pace forecast and Timeform noting that hold-up horses are often at a disadvantage here unless there is a searching gallop, tactical positioning could prove crucial.

Leading Contenders

Take The Boat (TF Adjusted 72)
A progressive filly thriving on the all-weather, with three wins already this year, including a short-head success in a 13-runner Kempton event last time out. Travels well in her races and is tactically versatile, which should suit given the even pace setup. She’s gone up another 4 lb, but remains in the same grade and is clearly in good heart. Looks the one to beat.

Adelaide Bay (TF Adjusted 71)
Impressive when winning at Chelmsford two starts ago, showing sharp acceleration to settle matters decisively. However, she disappointed last time at Southwell when sent off a well-backed favourite, unable to pick up after being outpaced. She’s well drawn here and may be ridden more positively this time, which would suit. Worth a second look, particularly if the market speaks in her favour.

Snow Creek (TF Adjusted 68)
Ran a creditable race when third at Newcastle last time and shaped as though she’d appreciate this trip. From a good family, and although still a maiden, she has shown enough to suggest a Class 6 contest like this is within reach. A straightforward type with tactical pace.

Main Dangers

Dream Illusion (TF Adjusted 68p)
A lightly raced filly who was shuffled back at a key stage on her handicap debut at Nottingham. She retains potential and is the type to improve with experience, particularly now returned to an artificial surface. The ‘p’ symbol indicates Timeform expect improvement, though her tendency to be held up is a possible negative given the likely pace scenario.

Lady Kilonova (TF Adjusted 69)
Not seen since October and her final start as a two-year-old offered little, though excuses were noted. Best effort came over a mile, and she drops in trip here. From a yard capable of readying one off a break. With 213 days off, it’s wise to watch the market closely for signs of intent.

Interesting Outsiders

Prima Diva (TF Adjusted 65)
Trainer Jonathan Portman has a notably profitable record with horses returning from breaks, and Prima Diva returns after 172 days off. She showed a modicum of promise in novice company and makes her handicap debut now. She’s bred to improve with age and trip, and while the form is modest, any sustained market support would be significant.

Rosezan (TF Adjusted 66)
Showed a bit more last time in first-time blinkers and eyeshields. Still lightly raced and connections have now added experience in the saddle with Tom Marquand. This is a drop in grade and she could take another step forward.

Trends & Trainer Notes

There are no past renewals of this race in the database, so no historical trends to call upon. However, a few general notes apply:

Karl Burke, trainer of Dream Illusion, has a solid record with three-year-old handicappers improving for their second run in this grade.

Jane Chapple-Hyam, trainer of Adelaide Bay, is 2-4 at Wolverhampton with 3yos this year.

Jonathan Portman’s strong ROI with horses off a break makes Prima Diva one to monitor very closely for late support.

Conclusion

Take The Boat sets the standard on recent form and adjusted ratings, and is well placed to dominate again in this grade. Adelaide Bay appeals as a danger if ridden handily and bouncing back from Southwell, while Snow Creek looks reliable and holds each-way claims. Dream Illusion and Prima Diva are both unexposed and interesting profiles for the future—keep an eye on their prices, especially late in the day. With 11 runners, place terms make room for value seekers to consider Rosezan and Prima Diva as outsiders with potential to sneak into the frame.
