Race Preview – 14:20 Chepstow, Tuesday 13 May 2025DAVID LUCAS TREBLE ODDS LUCKY 15S HANDICAP (Class 6, 0–55, 4yo+, 5f 16y)

·

Going: Good to Firm (Good in places) | Runners: 8 | Surface: Turf | Pace Forecast: Strong
Draw Bias: Not significant over this trip at Chepstow, though early pace is often rewarded due to the track’s downhill run.

Pace/Draw Angle

With a strong pace expected, it’s likely to favour prominent racers drawn middle to high. Wedgewood, Fishermans Cottage, and Savannah Smiles are habitual front-runners, and with no significant draw bias, tactical early positioning may prove more decisive than stall location.

Strongest Contenders

WEDGEWOOD (TFR 66) – 7/10
Returned to form with a commanding all-the-way win at Wolverhampton (0–52) and now returns to turf off a 2lb lower mark. He’s a pace-setter with a strong profile at 5f and acts well on fast ground. Turf form has been more mixed, but this is a career-low mark on the grass. Marco Ghiani retains the ride (34% strike rate on favourites).

STREET LIFE (TFR 67) – 6.5/10
Solid recent form in AW sprints including two close efforts at Wolverhampton. Timeform notes he traded short in-play last time. His adjusted rating stacks up well here, and he’s tactically versatile. Likely to track the leaders, and any ease in the early fractions would help.

FISHERMANS COTTAGE (TFR 65) – 6.5/10
Lightly raced for his age and looked a possible improver when making a winning return in an amateurs’ event over 6f at Salisbury. 5lb penalty could be workable. Recent winner who’s still on a basement mark (OR 46), though now meets stronger opposition.

Main Dangers

COCO HILL (TFR 63) – 6/10
A course winner and hinted at a return to form since switching to Adrian Wintle. Has tactical speed and was a solid second to a well-handicapped winner at Wolverhampton last time. Soft profile, but this is easier and he’s on a career-low turf mark. Watch for support in the market.

DARKENED EDGE (TFR 69) – 6/10
Ran well a few times last season and excuses for his last start when wide. Has had a wind op and tends to give his running at this trip. Not ideally drawn for a late swoop, but could benefit if the pace collapses. May need the run after 148 days off.

Interesting Outsiders

GLAMOROUS JOY (TFR 70) – 5/10
Out of form when last seen, but has decent prior turf form and won well at Salisbury last summer. John O’Shea has a solid record with horses off breaks (+£38 level-stake profit), so she could pop up at a price on return if tuned up. Watch the market closely.

SAVANNAH SMILES (TFR 62+) – 4.5/10
Course winner who recorded four wins last year but lost her way on the AW over the winter. Likely pace angle, though her best form is at 6f. May be using this as a pipe-opener after 113 days off.

PROFESSOR TICKLE (TFR 67) – 4/10
Has shown glimpses at Wolverhampton but profile is patchy. Drawn on the rail but might get swallowed if early pace is frenetic. Trainer out of form.

Timeform Trends & Notable Trainer Notes

No trainer has won this race more than once in recent years.

4yo and 5yo sprinters have dominated past renewals.

John O’Shea’s record with fresh horses gives a nod to Glamorous Joy.

The pace setup looks strong and front-runners may come under pressure late on unless they dominate early.

Final Note

With eight runners, each-way value exists. Street Life and Coco Hill appeal as consistent low-level handicappers with strong adjusted ratings and positive recent form. Watch closely for any market support on Glamorous Joy and Savannah Smiles, both returning from significant layoffs (90+ days). The former has trainer stats in her favour, while the latter has course form and early speed.
