15:00 Yarmouth – Wednesday, 14 May 2025MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK FILLIES’ NOVICE STAKES (Class 4)6f 3y | Turf | Good to Firm (Good in places) | 3yo+ | 8 runners | £5,832 to the winner

·

Conditions & Setup

This is a Class 4 novice for 3yo+ fillies over 6f at Yarmouth. The ground is officially Good to Firm (Good in places). Eight runners are declared, with one non-runner (Petula).

Pace Forecast: Weak overall. Historically at this trip on quick ground here, prominent runners tend to be favoured.
Pace Angle: How Lovely is likely to be well positioned tactically, especially against more patiently-ridden types like Sunlit Uplands, who could be inconvenienced by a steady gallop.

Draw Bias: No strong statistical bias in an eight-runner field on this straight track.

Leading Contenders

HOW LOVELY (83p) [9/10]
Won on debut at Southwell (AW) beating a subsequent winner. That form has since been franked. The Timeform ‘p’ suggests further improvement is expected. Crisfords are in good nick, and this well-bred filly (200,000Y) could be tactically advantaged under Harry Davies.
Trainer has a solid record with well-prepped returners. Market support would be a strong positive after 209 days off.

MAHRA’S LOVE (79p) [8/10]
Improved second-up when 2¾ lengths second to a potentially smart winner at Brighton last time. Strong stable record at Yarmouth (31% strike rate since 2021) is a notable stat. Could be suited by better ground and looks likely to progress again.
Timeform ‘p’ and Smart Stat both positive. Likely main threat.

SUNLIT UPLANDS (77p) [7/10]
Confirmed promise at Chelmsford, comfortably landing a 6f novice. Penalised again here and returns from 146 days off. The pace setup doesn’t favour her hold-up style, and she may be vulnerable to better-placed types.
Not ruled out, but tactics may prove a hindrance.

Main Dangers / Interesting Outsiders

LEO’S CHOICE (–) [6/10]
Debutante for Archie Watson, with Hollie Doyle booked. Closely related to multiple winners including Air Force Jet. Sire Invincible Spirit has produced over 100 debut winners on the Flat. Well-bred, and market support would be notable.
Trainer/jockey combo strong. Respected on pedigree but hard to rate confidently without public form.

PELEAN (78p) [6/10]
Ran second at Southwell in March but well held at Yarmouth on 1 May. Still lightly raced and retains potential, but doesn’t look the most forward filly just yet. Weak pace may not help.
Trainer strike rate at Yarmouth is a plus (22%), but recent form tempers enthusiasm.

BINT ELNADIM STAR (–p) [5/10]
Needed the experience at Wolverhampton when well held. Likely to improve with that behind her. Half-sister to a useful sprinter.
Profiles as a work-in-progress; more of a watching brief today.

ROSEMARY’S ROSE (67) [3/10]
Disappointed last time when sent off favourite, racing freely and fading. Weak overall form profile.
Timeform rating is the lowest in the field; needs to settle better to show anything worthwhile.

Trainer Watch

William Haggas (Mahra’s Love): 31% strike rate at Yarmouth since 2021.

John & Thady Gosden (Pelean): 22% at Yarmouth, usually selective.

Simon & Ed Crisford (How Lovely): Noted for readying fillies off breaks; in strong current form.

No previous runnings of this race to draw historic trends from.

Summary Advice

This looks between the two penalised winners, with How Lovely preferred due to tactical position and substance in the form line. Mahra’s Love is feared, with Sunlit Uplands perhaps disadvantaged by how this is likely to be run.

Market Monitoring Advice: Keep an eye on support or drift for those returning from 90+ day layoffs – notably How Lovely and Sunlit Uplands.
Each-way options are limited due to field size, but Leo’s Choice may be worth a second glance if the market speaks in her favour.
