17:10 TIPPERARY – Tipperary Town Maiden Hurdle (4yo, 2m 190y, €6,000)

·

Going: Good to Yielding
Runners: 15 declared
Pace Forecast: Weak – likely a muddling early tempo. Could suit those able to race handily or those with proven finishing effort.

Pace Bias / Track Note: Tipperary’s 2m layout can favour tactical speed in small fields. In this bigger field with limited confirmed pace, forward position could be a plus if there’s no injection of tempo down the back.

Strongest Contenders

  • JONNY CARROL (IRE) (Gordon Elliott, TFR 101)
Third in a 2m5f Limerick maiden on debut – a fair effort for a yard that often sharpens them up next time. Brings the strongest recent form. Could come on plenty and drops back in trip.
    Rating: 8/10
  • WIZZLEOUT (Gordon Elliott, unraced)
Half-brother to several winners and makes debut for a top stable that excels with juveniles and first-time starters. Hasn’t run, but the trainer placement here suggests readiness.
    Rating: 7.5/10
  • J’ENVOIEVALSERENKI (FR) (Paul Nolan, TFR 122)
Has shaped with mild promise, notably when sixth at Punchestown in a fair juvenile. The pedigree is strong (half-brother to Docteur de Ballon), and today’s weaker pace scenario could help.
    Rating: 7/10
  • PORTETTA (IRE) (John Joe Hanlon, TFR 103)
Third in a Bangor bumper and bred to go over hurdles. Gets weight from the geldings, and likely to improve. Each-way player on profile.
    Rating: 7/10

Main Dangers / Interesting Outsiders

  • BALLYEARL (FR) (Henry de Bromhead, TFR 116)
Ran respectably in a Fairyhouse juvenile and now sports first-time hood. Well-bred and may show more with experience now on better ground.
    Rating: 6.5/10
  • DOCTOR CONFUSION (FR) (Henry de Bromhead, TFR 106)
Stable second-string on jockey bookings but has shown small bits of ability. Didn’t finish off at Cork, but yard’s runners can improve sharply.
    Rating: 6/10
  • GUESS WHAT (IRE) (Enda Bolger, TFR 103)
Eighth on debut at Limerick in a fillies’ maiden but looked green. From a well-related family and gets M. P. Walsh up. Likely improver.
    Rating: 6/10
  • THE CHEEKY PUP / WATCHING THE CLOCK / GUIDED BY YOU
All debutantes with stamina pedigrees. Guided By You has a particularly appealing page (from the Like-A-Butterfly family). Market support would be revealing.
    Ratings: 5–6/10

Runners With Limited Appeal (Unless Market Moves)

  • MR WICKERSLEY / INTENZO / DR KAPOOR / LOULOULESS / WILD WILD WIND
Either no rules form or tailed off on debut. All need to improve significantly.
    Ratings: 3–4.5/10

Trainers With Previous Winners in Race

  • Willie Mullins has dominated recent renewals (2023, 2022, 2021 D.I & D.II), but no runner declared this year.
  • Padraig Roche trained the 2021 D.I. winner and runs Watching The Clock.
  • Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead both have multiple runners here.

Each-Way Angles

With 15 runners and at least four with credible form, there’s scope for an each-way play.

  • Portetta looks value with bumper experience and weight allowance.
  • J’envoievalserenki could also pick up late in a muddling race.
  • Watch the market carefully for support on Elliott’s debutant Wizzleout or improvers like Ballyearl.

Final Word

This is a wide-open and lightly raced field, with significant improvement likely from many. Jonny Carrol has the best form on paper, but Wizzleout and Portetta are lively alternatives. Keep a very close eye on market movements, particularly on newcomers and stable second strings like Doctor Confusion or Guided By You.
