Race Setup & Overview
This is the first division of a 3yo-only novice stakes over 7f on the straight course at Newbury. Eleven lightly raced or unraced colts and geldings go to post, several with standout pedigrees or eyecatching debuts. The pace forecast is strong, and low draws are historically favoured on quick ground here.
Pace and Draw Analysis
- A strong early gallop is likely, led by Impresario, Sea Force, and Zouligan.
- Montpellier (drawn 1) and Uniting (9) both typically race off the pace – a profile that may suit here if the front-runners overdo things.
- Low draws (1–3) are usually advantageous on this straight 7f, especially when the going is fast and the field is double-digit in size.
Leading Contenders (Ratings, Profiles, Trends)
SEA FORCE (IRE) – Adj TFR: 102+ – 8/10
Improved markedly on second start when just edged out at Doncaster. By Sea The Stars and related to smart 2yo sprinter Pretty Crystal. Well drawn in 2, with a prominent run style suited to Newbury. Yard (Haggas) has a 23% strike rate here since 2021. Obvious player.
MONTPELLIER – Adj TFR: 93+ – 7/10
Wootton Bassett gelding who won impressively at Thirsk on debut, despite looking green. Related to high-class sprinter Mabs Cross, though shaping as a 7f/1m type. Front-runner drawn in 1 – ideal conditions – and entitled to improve. Main danger.
KAIZEN – Adj TFR: 80p – 6/10
Costly Kingman colt, a half-brother to Ylang Ylang. Ran below expectations on reappearance at Yarmouth but shaped better than the result suggests in a tactical race. Trainer excels with this type and improvement expected.
UNITING (IRE) – Adj TFR: 80+ – 6/10
Showed promise at Doncaster at 250/1, finishing with purpose in a race not run to suit. Gelded son of Mehmas, may go forward more today. Could surprise if taking a step forward.
Other Runners of Note
- BLUE LANCERO – Adj TFR: 75 – 5/10
Well-beaten on debut, but stable is red-hot and this son of Havana Gold is a half-brother to multiple winners. Market could guide. - SILENT STORM – Adj TFR: ? – 5/10
Full brother to Happy Power and represents a stable with a good record with debutants. May need the run but could surprise based on pedigree. Strong debutant sire angle (Dark Angel). - ABUNDANCE – Adj TFR: 77 – 5/10
Third at Windsor recently. Going the right way but faces a deeper race here and not ideally drawn in 3 for a horse likely to be held up.
Runners Less Likely to Feature
- IMPRESARIO (Adj TFR est 63) and ROCK N IT (Adj TFR 25) look to be running for experience.
- ROAD HOUSE shaped OK on the AW and has changed yards since. Limited appeal in this deeper race.
- ZOULIGAN likely to need more time based on pedigree and wide draw (10).
Trainer Trends & Historical Notes
- Haggas (Sea Force): 23% strike rate at Newbury since 2021.
- Ferguson (Montpellier): Won this race (Div I) in 2023 with Good Karma.
- Channon (Zouligan): Has had success with sprinter types at 2 but less so in 7f+ novices.
- Gosden team (Kaizen): Always to be feared with expensive, well-bred 3yo types at Newbury.

Final Notes
- Sea Force looks a highly likely winner on profile, draw, and visual impression last time.
- Montpellier may ensure a genuine test up front but could be vulnerable late if the gallop gets overly strong.
- Each-way/forecast angle: Kaizen or Uniting for minor money behind the top two.
- Market support for Silent Storm would be notable given his pedigree and trainer’s strike rate with debutants.
