Pace and Draw Bias

Pace is forecast as even. At Roscommon over this trip, prominent runners often fare well, particularly when the ground is on the quick side. That would favour Bright N Shine and Chavajod, who race forward, and be less helpful for confirmed hold-up types like Zipster. There’s no noted draw bias.

Top Contenders & Ratings (with Comments)

AEON’S AEGIS (TFR 74) – Rating: 8.5/10
Lightly-raced 3yo from the Joseph O’Brien yard. Showed ability in maidens, including an eyecatching third at Limerick last time. Step up in trip looks logical, well-bred, and open to more improvement on handicap debut.
Tissue: 7/2

CHAVAJOD (TFR 81) – Rating: 8/10
Back on song when scoring narrowly at Limerick last time. That was on heavy, but he has winning form on quicker ground too. Carries a 5 lb rise, but should be competitive if repeating that level.
Tissue: 9/2

THRIFTY OF DIGBY (TFR 81) – Rating: 7.5/10
Better effort last time behind Church Mountain, showing his Gowran win wasn’t a one-off. Still relatively unexposed at the trip and shaping like he’ll stay further.
Tissue: 6/1

THE REAL SCREAMER (TFR 80) – Rating: 7.5/10
Dual Dundalk winner last autumn and ran well two starts back at Navan. Not quite at that level last time at Ballinrobe but drops slightly in class and tongue tie goes on.
Tissue: 13/2

NITA (TFR ?) – Rating: 7/10
German import with smart back form. Didn’t take to hurdles last month, but back on the Flat she could be well treated off 75 if adjusting to Irish conditions.
Tissue: 15/2

BRIGHT N SHINE (TFR 82) – Rating: 7/10
Consistent and game when third behind Come On The Lads at Dundalk in October. Race-fitness a concern off 127 days, but has strong pace stats and could go well if ready.
Tissue: 10/1

Interesting Outsiders

SPY (TFR 82§) – Rating: 6.5/10
Not seen for 268 days but had some bad luck in running at this venue last year. Back with Charles Byrnes, and he’s better than he’s shown in the bare figures.
Tissue: 12/1

ZIPSTER (TFR 84) – Rating: 6.5/10
Former UK-trained winner with solid AW and turf form. Poorly positioned at Cork last time and could outrun odds if breaking better.
Tissue: 12/1

ALBION POWER (TFR 79) – Rating: 5.5/10
Still unproven on turf and didn’t fire last time on AW. Looks vulnerable at this level unless finding sudden improvement.
Tissue: 16/1

VIERSON (TFR 81) – Rating: 5.5/10
Patchy record and trainer out of form. Backed off the boards when winning a weak maiden in February but has struggled since.
Tissue: 20/1

Trainer & Market Notes

Joseph O’Brien has a strong record with 3yo handicap debutants at this time of year.

D.P. Coakley’s Chavajod benefits from a notable +£45 level stakes profit with sole runners at meetings.

Watch Nita and Bright N Shine closely in the market, both returning from breaks of over 90 days.

Horse Odds

Aeon’s Aegis 7/2
Chavajod 9/2
Thrifty Of Digby 6/1

Nita 15/2
Bright N Shine 10/1
Spy 12/1
Zipster 12/1
Albion Power 16/1

Conclusion:
Aeon’s Aegis is an appealing improver from top connections, but Chavajod arrives battle-hardened and has form in the book. Thrifty Of Digby could improve again, while Nita and Spy are harder to peg but have back-class. A trappy heat where market moves for returning horses will tell plenty.
