Race Conditions & Pace/Draw Angles
This is a competitive mile handicap for 3-year-olds rated up to 75. The pace forecast is strong, with several noted front-runners or prominent racers, including Hot Dancer, Flagon Dry, and Everyoneknowsadave. A true test seems likely, which could suit runners who settle and finish well from mid-division.
No significant draw bias is reported on this straight/turf track configuration, though holding a position and not racing too freely will be important with a strong early gallop.

Strongest Contenders
MAN OF LA MANCHA (TFR 88p) – Delivered a clear-cut success at Windsor on handicap debut last week, readily drawing clear under positive tactics. He carries a 6lb penalty here but remains ahead of the assessor on Timeform ratings. Ralph Beckett is flying, and the 7lb claim negates much of the penalty. Has the profile of a horse still progressing. Rating: 9/10
ZARATHOS (IRE) (TFR 89) – A consistent and narrowly-beaten maiden. Was caught in a pocket at Doncaster but stayed on late and had earlier gone close here over C&D. Well drawn, but tends to pull, so a strong pace will help him settle. Market support would be notable. Rating: 8/10
FLAGON DRY (IRE) (TFR 86) – Returned from a break with a fair third at Ripon behind a subsequent winner. Southwell maiden form has substance, and this extra run should bring him on. If he can tuck in behind the pace, he could be a strong stayer late. Rating: 7.5/10

Main Dangers
WAR HOWL (IRE) (TFR 83) – Moved to Michael Appleby and returned with a fair third over 7f at Newcastle. Likely to come on for that run, and William Buick is a strong booking for a horse who should enjoy today’s trip. A pace collapse could see him running on into the frame. Rating: 7/10
HOT DANCER (TFR 87) – Charlie Johnston-trained colt who has some solid runs in defeat, including a decent third last time behind Take A Breath. Stays well and Billy Loughnane takes over. Likely to race prominently again, but will need to ration his effort. Rating: 7/10
HERCULEUS (TFR 75p) – Lightly raced and showed big improvement when second at Windsor in maiden company. Connections are in hot form, and the visual impression was of a colt with upside. May be better suited to a more tactical test. Rating: 6.5/10

Interesting Outsiders / Profiles to Monitor
EVERYONEKNOWSADAVE (IRE) (TFR 86) – A January winner at Southwell who was unlucky not to finish closer at Doncaster. That run came in a warm race. Now in the care of Jessica Macey, he’s got a touch of value if he gets a clean run. Rating: 6.5/10
DARN HOT MYSTERY (IRE) (TFR 82) – Not seen since October and makes handicap debut off a workable mark. However, flopped when favourite last time out. Market could guide expectations off the 216-day break. Rating: 6/10
OCEANS CHARM (IRE) (TFR 70) – Returned from a wind op with a distant sixth in novice company at Windsor. Others have shown more. Rating: 4.5/10

Man of La Mancha was visually impressive and looks the type to go in again quickly.
Watch the market for Zarathos, who has traded short in defeat multiple times.

Final Notes
This looks a deep 0–75 with several progressive types. Man of La Mancha is the standout on form and figures, but there are some in here capable of bridging the gap with normal improvement. Zarathos is ultra-consistent and looks sure to be competitive again, while Flagon Dry, War Howl, and Hot Dancer are all solid each-way types in a race where the early gallop could set up for a closer. Keep an eye on market signals for both layoff horses (Darn Hot Mystery and Oceans Charm) and the in-form sprinters returning quickly (Man of La Mancha, Zarathos, and Hot Dancer).
