17:22 HAYDOCK PARK – BETFRED ‘BET BUILDER’ HANDICAP (Class 4, 7f, 0–78, 3yo only),

·

Race Conditions

Distance: 7f (6f212y)

Class: 4 Handicap

Age Restriction: 3yo only

Rating Band: 0–78

Going: Good to Firm (straight course)

Runners: 12

Draw Bias: Favours low on fast ground in big fields at Haydock.

Pace Forecast: Strong – several prominent racers (Ran Amok, Soldiers Star, Mystical Storm) should ensure an honest gallop.

Pace & Positional Angles

Prominent/Front-runners: Soldiers Star, Ran Amok, Mystical Storm, Kamekist

Likely held-up types: Organ, Suhub, Miss Collada, Bear Kode

Pace Bias: On this track/trip, a strong pace can still favour closers but low draws with cover can dominate – particularly when ground is fast.

Leading Contenders

Mystical Storm (TFR 86p) – 8/10

Hugely eye-catching return at Redcar (close 3rd), shaping like one who’ll improve sharply for the outing.

Nicely bred, lightly raced, and makes handicap debut off 76 – looks ahead of mark.

Well-drawn and likely to track pace.

Trainer Camacho 4yo+ record at Haydock is modest, but this type goes well fresh.

Organ (TFR 90+) – 8/10

Came from off a strong pace to grab 3rd at Newmarket; kept on steadily.

3lb better off with Mystical Storm on figures and open to improvement on second start for Meade.

Another who should improve over 7f. Drawn slightly wide, but capable of running well.

Suhub (TFR 81) – 7.5/10

Haggas runner off 223-day layoff – significant given trainer’s 25% Haydock strike rate.

Pedigree full of class, and 7f will suit better than previous stiff mile.

Unexposed and a major player if ready to go first time. Market check vital.

High On Hope (TFR 88) – 7.5/10

Well backed and shaped as if Chester didn’t suit latest.

Placed in big-field Haydock handicap in April (strong form), and returns to ideal conditions here.

Races prominently, and low draw ideal. Solid chance.

Dangers / Outsiders to Note

Kamekist (TFR 87) – 6.5/10

Excuses at Windsor last time, having been blocked mid-race.

Won readily at Wolverhampton before that.

Drawn well and may appreciate return to prominent tactics.

Invitorio (TFR 86) – 6.5/10

Showed ability last backend and shaped nicely when 4th at Pontefract before flopping at Southwell.

Better drawn here, likely to sit close to pace. Respected if bouncing back.

Soldiers Star (TFR 87) – 6/10

Pulled hard and didn’t stay at Chester; that race is easily ignored.

Still unexposed on turf and won well at Kempton in March. Drawn wide though and may face competition for lead.

Ran Amok (TFR 83) – 5.5/10

Maiden winner but struggled in sales company.

Comes here fresh and well drawn for his style, but this looks a stiff ask off a break.

Bear Kode (TFR 80) – 4.5/10

Early 2yo promise has faded badly.

Returns from a long layoff and will need major improvement to figure.

Miss Collada (TFR 85) – 4.5/10

Not beaten far in better company last season but has been off the boil recently.

Wouldn’t rule out a revival back at 7f but percentage call is to oppose.

Titian Blue (TFR 82) – 4/10

Stable switch but well held on final 2yo start.

208-day break and stamina for stiff 7f not proven. Others preferred.

Non-Runner

Scatter Penny (FR) – declared non-runner

Trends & Trainer Notes

William Haggas (Suhub) has a 25% strike rate at Haydock since 2021 and scores 21% with handicap debutants.

This race typically throws up well-handicapped improvers – all 3 winners since 2022 were lightly raced and rated between 74–78.

Each-Way Angles (12 Runners)

Mystical Storm and High On Hope look the most solid each-way plays.

Suhub is the dark horse, while Kamekist has the profile to bounce back.
