Pace/Run Style Angle:

  • With All In You, Story Horse, Anzac Day and Torcello likely to force the gallop, this looks set up for a strong pace.
  • That may disadvantage front-runners like Anzac Day, but benefit closers such as Miller Spirit and French Master, especially those ridden patiently.

Strongest Contenders (Timeform Adjusted Ratings + Profile Context):

HorseTFR AdjProfile CommentsMark (/10)
French Master111pLightly raced and shaped as if more to come upped in trip on hcp debut. Strong yard. Suited by pace.9
Master Builder110Travels strongly; stayed on well on return. Will enjoy strong pace and trip.8.5
Loughville105Peak form last time in Listed race here. Up in trip. Alan King has a good record in this race.8
Anzac Day114Consistent 3yo form and fair return. May be too prominent in likely burn-up. Needs cover.7.5
Story Horse110Tough and genuine, in-form, but style may not suit today’s pace profile.7.5
Ocean of Dreams109Reliable sort who’s fit and in form. Each-way chance. Not obviously well treated.7
Steel Tiger111On the up but preference for AW form. Well drawn and adaptable. Could get involved late.7
All In You104Lightly raced in UK, better known in France. May help force pace and fade. Watch market.6.5
Bluegrass107+Classy backform on the Flat, now dual-code. Needs revival and market move.6.5
Dancing In Paris111Not beaten far last time, but not progressing. More needed to win this.6.5
Miller Spirit113Won over CD last year. Blotted copybook last time but well handicapped if forgiven.6
Torcello110Old-timer back off 211-day break. Front-runner. Unlikely this will fall right for him.5.5

Interesting Outsiders & Market Watch:

  • Anzac Day (33-day layoff): Watch market carefully. He’s capable, but may find the shape of the race against him if prominent early.
  • Bluegrass (35-day layoff): Fair form over hurdles. Classy old Flat pedigree. Market could be telling with him.
  • All In You (64-day layoff): French recruit – stamina angle appealing on pedigree – unexposed in Britain.

Trainer and Trends Insight:

  • Alan King (Loughville) has won this race twice in the last 10 years (2022, 2019).
  • John & Thady Gosden, in excellent current form, won this in 2023 and now field unexposed French Master.
  • In-form trainers with strong stayer stats at Goodwood include David Menuisier (Master Builder) and Andrew Balding (Anzac Day).

Each-Way Value (3 Places, 12 runners):

  • Ocean of Dreams and Steel Tiger offer reliability and late-running profiles. Good pace may bring them into the frame.
  • Loughville has Listed form and gets a handy draw and top rider. Strong each-way appeal.

Summary:
FRENCH MASTER is the one to beat. He shaped like a winner-in-waiting last time when second to an enterprisingly ridden rival. With more emphasis on stamina this time, and a patient ride expected, he can go one better. MASTER BUILDER is a solid improver, and LOUGHVILLE brings smart Listed form. Pace setup might make life tough for ANZAC DAY, but he’s dangerous if ridden quietly. For each-way punters, OCEAN OF DREAMS and STEEL TIGER look primed to run their races again.

Keep an eye on any positive market moves for the lightly raced improvers returning from breaks, notably All In You, Bluegrass, and French Master – they could be set for “Go Days”.
