Pace & Draw Angles

Pace forecast: Even
Draw bias: No notable bias over this intermediate trip at Goodwood.

Historical data suggests those held up at this trip tend to fare better, but this time the forecast even tempo could tilt things slightly in favour of prominent racers like Liberty Lane, while potential closers like Cash may be disadvantaged if there’s no pace injection mid-race.

Leading Contenders

LIBERTY LANE (TFR 129) – 9/10
A powerful traveller with high cruising speed. Impressive winner of last year’s Cambridgeshire and looked on the way back when a quiet third behind The Foxes in the Huxley Stakes at Chester. Back down to a more suitable level here, this trip suits, and he’ll likely be ridden handily. Peak form makes him the one to beat.

SILVER KNOTT (TFR 122) – 8/10
Smart globetrotter who returned with a dominant win at Meydan before going down as a beaten favourite in the G2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket. Tendency to over-race is a concern. This drop to 10f looks sensible, and Buick retains the ride. Charlie Appleby has twice won this in the past decade.

EXOPLANET (TFR 125) – 7/10
Ran a belter on return from 22 months off when second in a strong Listed race at Kempton. Lightly raced and shaped like he’d improved with time. Not straightforward, but entitled to come on again, and Hollie Doyle is a good match. If the bounce factor doesn’t hit, he’s a major threat.

Main Dangers & Interesting Outsiders

CASH (TFR 127) – 6/10
Gelded and off 7 months before an underwhelming return in the Sandown Mile. Best form is over this trip or slightly further. Has plenty of raw ability and did shape like a horse needing the outing last time. Spencer likely to drop him in – will need a strong pace to be at his best.

PEACE MAN (TFR 122) – 6/10
Useful type who ran well in last season’s Newmarket Listed events and shaped as if better for the run when last behind Al Aasy on reappearance. Entitled to come forward, but this is his first start at Goodwood and he’s not especially tactically versatile.

SIR BUSKER (TFR 125) – 5/10
Veteran who retains ability. Outpaced in Listed company last time but remains capable of placing in a strongly run affair. William Knight’s only runner on the card; he’s shown a good return in that scenario. Outsider with a squeak if the pace collapses.

MEYDAAN (TFR 113) – 4/10
Smart on his day and a C&D Listed winner in 2024. Didn’t get home in Group 2 company last time and likely vulnerable again in this deeper-than-average Listed event.

SAVVY VICTORY (TFR 124) – 4/10
AW handicap winner who has struggled to land a blow at this level. Hard to see him outclassing several more proven rivals.

JEFF KOONS (TFR 117) – 3/10
Ex-Qatari runner with fair form abroad. Hard to assess against UK Listed standards but would need to find a chunk to trouble the key players.

Trends & Trainer Notes

4 and 5yo runners have a strong recent record.

Charlie Appleby (Silver Knott) has won 2 of the last 10 renewals.

Karl Burke is in excellent current form (Liberty Lane).

William Knight’s sole runner angle (Sir Busker) has been profitable historically.

Final Note:

A deep Listed race by modern standards. Liberty Lane has the class and fitness edge to take advantage, but Silver Knott and Exoplanet are closely matched on peak form. Keep an eye on Cash, who can bounce back fitter, and Sir Busker, who could sneak into the frame if it collapses late.
