·

Pace & Draw Angles

The pace profile looks even, with several pressing types but no confirmed tearaway leader. Duty First and Swelter could be ridden prominently, while Flight, Lake Victoria and Simmering are likely to be played late. There’s no major draw bias on the straight mile at the Curragh.

Strongest Contenders

Lake Victoria (TFR 129) – 10/10
Outstanding 2yo campaign capped by a Breeders’ Cup win; ran with credit in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket when shaping as if needing the run. With that behind her, she’s entitled to come forward significantly and is unbeaten at the Curragh. Aidan O’Brien has won 4 of the last 10 renewals and this filly is still the one to beat.

Swelter (TFR 118p) – 9/10
Two-from-two and looked well above average in the Leopardstown trial. Closely related to high-class performers and bred to improve further. Trainer D.K. Weld has also won this twice in the last decade. A major threat with fitness and form on her side.

Flight (TFR 122) – 8/10
Rallied strongly when second in the Newmarket 1000 Guineas and is a tough, progressive filly from the in-form Ollie Sangster yard. Capable of reversing placings with Lake Victoria with a clear run, but may need a strong tempo to see her at her best late.

Main Dangers

Simmering (TFR 118) – 7/10
Third behind Desert Flower and Flight at Newmarket and also trained by Ollie Sangster. Consistent, likes the trip, and not much between her and Flight on form. Will need everything to drop right but another solid each-way type.

January (TFR 114) – 7/10
Has smart juvenile form and finished second in the Fillies’ Mile last backend. Off since then, so fitness a question, but clearly talented and has Aidan O’Brien’s backing. Keep an eye on the market.

Interesting Outsiders

Atsila (TFR 114p) – 6/10
Unbeaten in two starts, including the Athasi Stakes. She beat several reopposing fillies there and is open to further improvement, though the form may not match up to Guineas standard just yet.

City Of Memphis (TFR 101p) – 6/10
Impressive Cork debut and held in high regard. The bare form lacks depth, but she could be anything. Trainer Paddy Twomey’s runners usually come on for their debut wins and he’s 21% at the Curragh.

Cercene (TFR 112) – 5/10
Tough and consistent, placed in both the Guineas Trial and Athasi. Likely to give her running but looks vulnerable to classier rivals.

Others Rated

Duty First (TFR 121) – 5/10 – Shock Fred Darling winner, flopped badly at Newmarket. Could bounce back, but unproven at this level.

Jaliyah (TFR 105) – 4/10 – Better at longer trips, unlikely to be suited by 1m pace.

California Dreamer (TFR 108) – 4/10 – Stays well but lacks tactical speed.

Tamam Desert (TFR 97p) – 3/10 – Respectable return in Blue Wind but out of depth in this company.

Trainer Trends

Aidan O’Brien: 4 wins in last 10 years (Lake Victoria, January)

D.K. Weld: 2 wins (Swelter)

Paddy Twomey: Yard in strong recent form; watch City Of Memphis

Market signals important: Lake Victoria and January both return off 3+ week breaks; January hasn’t run in 226 days.

Summary
The standout is Lake Victoria, who looks the class act based on her 2yo season and shaped with encouragement on return. Swelter is a major threat and comes here fresh and unbeaten. Flight and Simmering both offer consistent form, while January is a possible improver if ready off her break. City Of Memphis and Atsila are the most interesting of the unexposed types. A high-quality renewal with a deep undercard and potential for a close finish if the favourite underperforms again.
