1. Pace/Draw Angle
Timeform’s “Very Weak” pace forecast suggests a tactical contest with a premium on race position. NATIVE WARRIOR is expected to race handily and may be at a distinct advantage, while closers like STERLING KNIGHT could be compromised unless the race unexpectedly develops some mid-race pressure.

2. Contenders, Dangers & Outsiders
Strongest Contenders
Native Warrior (TFR 122) – Lightly raced 4yo who shaped with promise in the Lincoln on return, racing prominently and weakening late. Good form last summer in top handicaps (2nd in the Golden Mile; 3rd in Britannia). Could dictate this small field, with his style tailor-made for a slowly run mile.
Talis Evolvere (TFR 118) – Multiple winner last year and ran with credit in a strong apprentice event at Ascot last time. May be suited by a steady gallop, and represents an in-form Hannon yard.
Alpha Crucis (TFR 117) – Group-handicap winner last year, not disgraced in the Lincoln on seasonal return. Typically goes forward, so could be well positioned in this tactical setup.
Main Dangers
Sterling Knight (TFR 117) – In good nick and was a closing second at Newmarket over 7f last week. Might find his style ill-suited to a crawl here but is in peak condition.
Socialite (TFR 114) – Returning from a 297-day absence. Gelded and off since finishing down the field in a listed race at Goodwood. Potential for improvement, but this looks a tough ask first time back.
Sean (TFR 117) – Runner-up in a hot Meydan handicap earlier this year but has gone backwards since. Hard to trust, especially given the tactical nature of this race.

3. Runner Ratings (out of 10)
No Horse Trainer TFR Rating (/10) Comments
1 Socialite C Hills 114 5 May need run; gelded since last seen in 2024
2 Sean J Osborne 117 5 Bit inconsistent, not sure to be suited by tactical race
3 Talis Evolvere R Hannon 118 7 On the up; close third at Ascot, pace might suit
4 Alpha Crucis G & J Moore 117 7 Strong form in 2024; solid return; races handily
5 Native Warrior K R Burke 122 9 Strong mile handicap form; ideal pace setup
6 Sterling Knight E Dunlop 117 7 In-form but hold-up tactics may hinder late effort
> Market watch: Note the return of Socialite after nearly 300 days – support would be notable given the yard’s form.
Pace angle: Native Warrior could get first run on the field, making him a very strong proposition in a tactical race.
