18:22 Kempton – Try Unibet’s Improved Acca Boosts Novice Stakes (Div I, 7f, Class 4, 3yo+)Surface: Standard to Slow (Polytrack)Field: 10 runners

·

Pace Forecast: Weak. This may favour prominent racers over hold-up types. The draw bias here usually works against high stalls, adding a layer of complexity for wide runners.

1. Strongest Contenders, Dangers & Notables

Dr Strangelove made a striking impression when overcoming greenness to win a 6f event here last month, staying on strongly to get up close home. That suggested today’s extra furlong will suit. He’s drawn well in stall 1, and the pace map implies he can stay handy. Penalised but open to plenty of improvement.

Kyoto is a 220,000 euro yearling and makes debut for the in-form Andrew Balding team with Oisin Murphy booked. The pedigree is strong — related to Group-class performers over sprint trips — and this is a logical starting point. Market support would be telling.

Fort Campbell showed a big step forward on his second start at Chelmsford and is bred to improve over this sort of trip. He’s been off for over six months but returns for a hot stable. Not ideally drawn in stall 2 for a horse who has been dropped in previously, but he’s respected on potential.

Day of Grace ran better than the bare result on debut here two weeks ago. William Haggas’s fillies often come on plenty for their first run and she may do better stepping up to a mile in time. Still, this looks a warm novice, and she’ll need to progress quite a bit.

Thaloria, Grey Soul, and Give Me The Night are well-bred debutants from capable yards. Roger Varian (trainer of Grey Soul) has a notable 25% strike rate at Kempton, while Thaloria represents Harry Eustace, who is quietly effective with 3yo newcomers.

Moonlight Bomb and Desert Charm have shown little in their initial starts, and Henrytheninth returns from 319 days off with a modest run to his name.

2. Trainer Trends, Profile Angles & Track Notes

Dr Strangelove is one of just two in the field with winning form and he did it despite showing inexperience.

Kyoto represents a yard that does well with debutants on the AW. Balding runners in maidens/novices over 7f at Kempton have been profitable to follow.

James Ferguson (Fort Campbell) remains in good form, and his runners typically improve from their first 2yo starts.

Varian, Haggas, and Eustace all boast strong Kempton records.

Draw bias historically works against higher stalls at this trip — Kyoto (7), Moonlight Bomb (6), Day of Grace (9), and Desert Charm (10) are all affected to varying degrees.

3. Runner Ratings (out of 10 based on form, trainer, draw, and profile strength)

Dr Strangelove – 8.5
Kyoto – 8
Fort Campbell – 7.5
Day of Grace – 7
Thaloria – 6.5
Grey Soul – 6
Give Me The Night – 6
Moonlight Bomb – 4.5
Desert Charm – 4
Henrytheninth – 3.5

4. Each-Way Angles

10 runners declared – each-way terms apply.
No standout value, but Thaloria and Grey Soul both have interesting profiles and could run well at a price if there’s market strength behind them. Day of Grace is also not ruled out for a minor place with improvement expected.

5. Private Tissue Estimate

Dr Strangelove – 5/2
Kyoto – 7/2
Fort Campbell – 4/1
Day of Grace – 7/1
Thaloria – 10/1
Grey Soul – 10/1
Give Me The Night – 12/1
Moonlight Bomb – 25/1
Desert Charm – 50/1
Henrytheninth – 66/1

Summary:
Dr Strangelove sets a solid standard having won over 6f at this track, and he looks the one to beat if improving for the extra furlong. Kyoto is a danger on debut with a smart profile, and Fort Campbell appeals as the most likely improver from those with experience. Day of Grace, while needing more, is expected to step forward. Watch the market closely for Varian and Eustace newcomers from favourable draws.

Stats 📊👇

🔍 Trainer & Jockey Trends

Roger Varian (Grey Soul) maintains strong course and distance stats (21% Kempton, 20% over 7f) and a 33% strike with debutants.

W J Haggas (Day Of Grace) consistently hits 20%+ across all relevant metrics and is particularly strong with fillies.

Harry Eustace (Thaloria) shows a 25% win rate this week. Quiet but competent yard.

Jim Crowley (Give Me The Night) has a 23% strike this week and his trainer M G Rimell is 60% over the last 30 days—very sharp form.

🧬 Breeding Pointers

Dr Strangelove (Mohaather × Cheap Thrills): Sire is producing synthetic winners, and the dam has a good 25% win rate stat. A likeable, forward pedigree for this setup.

Day Of Grace (Night Of Thunder × Sea Of Grace): Dam was high-class; sire stats are rock-solid at Kempton (19% strike), and has trainer form in her corner.

Fort Campbell (War Front): Dam side has a big 38% “sire/distance” indicator. Breeding angles positive for surface/trip combo.

Thaloria (Zoustar × Ethaara): Dam has eye-catching distance and going stats (25%+). One to note with a view to improvement.

Give Me The Night (Earthlight): Bred for pace, sire making a promising start at stud. Dam’s line via Galileo suggests she’ll stay.

🧠 Runner Summary

Dr Strangelove – 5/4

Trainer in solid nick, sire is firing, and early figures look strong. Top rated. Will be popular.

Day Of Grace – 4/1

Night Of Thunder filly with a Group-performed dam and a top yard. Expected to step forward now. Strong each-way angle.

Fort Campbell – 11/4

War Front colt with decent stats on surface and trip, though trainer form not as eye-catching. Dangerous if sharper for debut.

Give Me The Night – 14/1

Rimell has her yard flying. Jim Crowley booked. Pedigree works. Might go under the radar.

Thaloria – 9/1

Zoustar filly with a dam showing big distance/going figures. Trainer form solid. Could run better than price suggests.

Grey Soul – 18/1

Represents a top trainer but jockey inexperienced and no big flags from the dam’s side. May need the outing.

Moonlight Bomb / Henrytheninth / Desert Charm

Lower statistical profiles across the board. Likely to be outpaced by better types in this.
