Porta Fortuna made a smooth return to action in the 2025 Lanwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh, picking up where she left off last season with another polished success. Now four, and a Group 1 winner at two and three, she’s shown she’s retained all of her ability—if not improved again.
The race at the Curragh was her first since a slightly luckless run in the Breeders’ Cup Mile last November. She was easy enough to back on the day, drifting from odds-on, but travelled like the class act she is before asserting when it mattered. The margin was only half a length, but she always looked in control, and it was a textbook comeback under Ryan Moore.
That brings her record to eight wins from thirteen starts, with multiple Group 1s on both sides of the Irish Sea and a proven track record at Royal Ascot, where she’s unbeaten in two runs. She stays a mile strongly, has gears, handles all ground, and seems to thrive with a target to aim at—making her ideally suited to races with a decent pace and quality opposition.
Looking ahead, the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot has been confirmed as her next target. It will be her first time racing against older colts and geldings in Europe, and while that represents a step up in depth, there’s every reason to think she’ll be more than competitive. She has the tactical versatility and mental resilience to deal with a race of that nature, and the straight mile at Ascot suits her down to the ground.
If all goes to plan at Ascot, races like the Prix Jacques le Marois or the Matron could follow, and a return to the Breeders’ Cup Mile remains on the table. Being a filly with no breeding career ahead of her, she may well be campaigned robustly through the autumn. There’s even a possibility she could travel further afield, to Japan or Hong Kong, if connections want to explore international options.
She’s a filly who keeps answering the questions asked of her. With soundness, a consistent temperament, and an unflinching attitude in a finish, Porta Fortuna looks set for another major campaign in 2025. She’s earned her place among Europe’s leading milers, and if she continues to progress, there may be even more to come.
