19:20 Carlisle – PRICEDUP HANDICAP (Class 4, 0–85), 5f, 3yo+

·

Race Conditions and Draw/Pace Angle:
Run over the sharp 5f trip on good ground at Carlisle, this is a 12-runner Class 4 sprint handicap. A strong early pace is expected, with several habitual front-runners drawn low – an advantage here, given the turning nature of the sprint course. Historically, prominent racers on the far side (low draws) tend to fare best. Those ridden for luck may find themselves needing gaps late if they drop in.

Leading Contenders:

Moonstone Boy (Draw 12) – Returned from a 6-month break with a neck second at Musselburgh and recorded a Timeform rating of 92 for that effort. He often starts slowly but stays on strongly and looks well treated. Blinkers retained. Major contender if breaking on terms.

Water Of Leith (Draw 5) – A course winner who is thriving, backing up a recent Catterick win with a short-head second here last week. Handles varying ground and seems to love this course. Trainer Jim Goldie is in form, and the gelding looks well suited to this test from a good draw.

Brummell (Draw 3) – Two wins from his last three starts and returned with a win at Beverley off a break. Has a breathing op behind him and retains his form well. Stays the trip and will be suited by a pace collapse if others overdo it.

Blind Beggar (Draw 11) – Back to near his last winning mark and posted a solid fourth at Ascot in a race not run to suit. Often races prominently and, while drawn wide, he could get across if he breaks well. Capable if reproducing peak figures.

Main Dangers and Outsiders of Interest:

Irish Nectar (Draw 1) – Has form figures that flatter somewhat but did win two starts back and has shown he can come through traffic late. Given the pace set-up and his low draw, a strong gallop would bring him into it.

Never Dark (Draw 2) – Another who races on the speed and is well berthed. A past dual winner who’s been kept fresh. Best efforts have come when able to dominate.

Emeralds Pride (Draw 8) – Inconsistent mare but has two Beverley wins to her name and can bounce back quickly. Just below her best last time but well enough treated to feature if back on song.

Hyperfocus (Draw 9) – Veteran who’s capable when fresh, but hasn’t fired in a while. Market vibes might tell the story here after a 211-day break.

Trainer/Trends Notes:

Jim Goldie (Water Of Leith) is in flying form and has a good record with sprinters at this course.

Julie Camacho (Brummell) profitable to follow when sending just one runner to a flat meeting.

No specific race history to lean on, as there are no past winners of this exact handicap.

Strong pace and prominent racers have historically done well here, especially those drawn low.

Note: Monitor market moves, particularly for any significant support or drift on those off 90+ days (e.g., Hyperfocus, Impressor, Glorious Angel). In-form returners like Moonstone Boy and Water Of Leith should be treated with respect.

Each-Way Angles:
With 12 runners declared, there are three places available. The value each-way alternatives to the market leaders might be Never Dark from stall 2, if allowed to lead, and Irish Nectar, who may come late off a strong pace.

Private Tissue Estimate (reflects Timeform ratings, pace, draw, trainer form):

Moonstone Boy – 4/1

Water Of Leith – 9/2

Brummell – 5/1

Blind Beggar – 6/1

Irish Nectar – 10/1

Never Dark – 12/1

Emeralds Pride – 14/1

Hyperfocus – 16/1

Minnie Wildes – 16/1

Glorious Angel – 20/1

Impressor – 25/1

A competitive sprint in prospect with pace and positioning likely to prove decisive.
