1. Conditions & Tactical Setup

This is a 7f novice race for two-year-olds, with the ground riding on the easy side. The pace forecast is very weak, which may favour runners with experience or those who race prominently. A draw bias against high numbers has been flagged at this trip in recent seasons, so lower stalls may be an advantage if the field converges late.

2. Strongest Contenders, Main Dangers & Notable Outsiders

Commanding Officer – The pick on paper. Represents the red-hot Appleby/Buick team (notably strong with 2yo debutants). Cost €150,000 and is out of a smart German 10f winner. Bred for further but related to winners over shorter. On a good mark and well drawn. Timeform adjusted rating: 89p. Clear form pick despite debutant status.

Morris Dancer – From the Gosden yard, this one caught the eye on debut over 6f at Newbury. He ran green and was never closer than at the finish, suggesting today’s extra furlong will suit. Has a strong Timeform ‘p’ and already earned a 75p rating with scope for significant improvement.

Sweet Lord – Beckett-trained and showed good late headway on debut over 5f at Newbury. Bred to get 7f+ and a likely improver. However, he was well back early and may again need luck if there’s no pace on. Timeform: 62p but progressive.

Brotherhood of Man – Haggas newcomer from a yard that’s 25% at Haydock since 2021. Nicely bred (first foal out of a useful miler). Stable form warrants respect and Tom Marquand is booked, but stall 2 might need some early initiative if there’s no pace. Market support would be notable.

On The Inlet – Reappears just 24 hours after a debut last at Yarmouth. Beaten 16.5 lengths and showed little, but the team are noted for quickly backing up juveniles that improve second time. Related to smart 2yo performers. One to monitor for market activity.

Greybeard – Expensive colt (€400k) and first foal of a 2yo 6f winner from a strong family. Ryan’s 2yo newcomers can be hit or miss, and while well-drawn, he’ll need to be sharp.

Gold Dawn – Half-brother to Balon d’Or and 2yo winners. Murphy booked for Palmer. Pedigree leans more sprint than stamina, but shaped with promise and should improve for the outing.

Deported – From a yard that’s profitable with single runners at meetings. Jamie Spencer’s mount has stamina in the pedigree, but debutants in weakly run 7f events need to be sharp. Risk of being outpaced.

Command The Stars – George Scott’s newcomers often improve with racing. Bred to get a trip, but pedigree is more staying than speedy. Market likely to guide.

Dodge City – Well beaten on debut and looks to need time. Second run in two weeks but others have stronger profiles.

Renovatio Angel – Down the field on debut over 5f and likely to need more time and distance.

3. Runner Ratings (out of 10)

Commanding Officer – 9

Morris Dancer – 8

Sweet Lord – 7

Brotherhood of Man – 6.5

Greybeard – 6

Gold Dawn – 6

Deported – 5

Command The Stars – 5

On The Inlet – 4.5

Dodge City – 3

Renovatio Angel – 2

> Watch for market support on Brotherhood of Man and Gold Dawn. If Commanding Officer is weak in the betting late, that may signal he’s more forward-looking than ready. Note also that in-form juvenile teams like Gosden, Beckett and Haggas can bring significant 2nd run improvement.

4. Each-Way Angle

11 runners, so standard each-way terms apply.
Morris Dancer appeals most for each-way purposes: shaped strongly on debut, is from a top yard, and will relish this extra furlong. He’ll likely settle better and should run on into the frame.

5. Private Tissue Estimate

Commanding Officer – 2/1

Morris Dancer – 9/2

Sweet Lord – 6/1

Brotherhood of Man – 8/1

Greybeard – 10/1

Gold Dawn – 10/1

Deported – 14/1

Command The Stars – 16/1

On The Inlet – 20/1

Dodge City – 33/1

Renovatio Angel – 66/1

Summary

This race hinges on how forward Commanding Officer is. He’s bred to be smart and comes from the most reliable juvenile yard in the country. Morris Dancer is the most interesting of those with experience and is likely to improve plenty. Sweet Lord also looks a solid type for the longer term, while Brotherhood of Man and Greybeard are interesting newcomers from proven stables.

Expect the winner to come from the top five in the market, and monitor closely for strength behind Morris Dancer, who could go off shorter if there’s support for second-time improvers.

🔹 Summary

This novice looks a strong contest on paper, but Commanding Officer has the clearest edge, with elite ratings across trainer, jockey, and sire stats. Morris Dancer and Brotherhood Of Man both bring classy pedigrees and hail from top yards — strong each-way/forecast interest depending on market shape.

Sweet Lord and Gold Dawn profile as decent types but may need experience or firmer conditions to show best. Watch for betting signals near post time, particularly for Gosden or Haggas debutants — their juveniles can take big steps forward second time out.
