19:00 Stratford, Friday 30 May 2025pointtopoint.co.uk CHAMPION NOVICES’ HUNTERS’ CHASE (Class 2, 3m3f119y, 5yo+, Good)Prize: £9,778 | 11 runners | Going: Good

·

1. Race Conditions & Tactical Overview

This is a long-distance novice hunter chase for horses aged five and up, contested over 3m3f on good ground. The pace forecast is weak, which could lead to a steadily run affair — suiting those with a turn of foot or the ability to travel well behind the pace. Horses with proven stamina and the ability to handle a tactical race will hold an edge.

A notable pace hint suggests that the race may favour Jeux D’Eau over Kings Jet, due to expected race positioning and stamina conservation.

2. Main Contenders, Dangers & Notable Outsiders

Hung Jury – Landed a competitive 4m Cheltenham hunter last month, staying on strongly and digging deep. He looks sure to be suited by this stamina test. The Keighley yard has a strong strike rate at Stratford with single chase runners, and the form of that Cheltenham race is holding up. Solid claims if reproducing that effort. Adjusted Timeform: 123

The Rebel County – An Irish raider who made a strong impression when winning a Tipperary novice hunter on debut for new connections, travelling powerfully and quickening well late. He brings fitness from recent points and is unexposed over fences under Rules. Adjusted Timeform: 119

Kings Jet – Another Irish-trained runner who impressed when winning at Down Royal, travelling like a smart prospect. That was a maiden but he did it in style. Strong pedigree for chasing and open to improvement, though will need to settle better. Adjusted Timeform: 117

Jeux D’Eau – Consistent in this sphere and has won twice in points this spring. Stamina should suit but his form under Rules has included jumping errors. If avoiding mistakes, he could go close, especially given the weak pace forecast. Adjusted Timeform: 121

I’m Spellbound – Multiple winning pointer but hasn’t run under Rules in over three years. Trainer is capable, and the mare comes here in winning form between the flags. Needs to prove she retains some class in this context, but Gina Andrews is a plus.

Kilfilum Woods – Got the better of Coolagh Park recently but had long gaps between Rules runs and has a patchy profile overall. Others bring more reliable profiles, though this was a fair effort last time.

Red Delta – Point winner but has failed to complete both hunter chase starts. Has shown early promise but lacks the jumping security required for this class of race.

Coolagh Park – Was beaten 6½ lengths last time by Kilfilum Woods and generally holds poor form in this sphere. Others preferred.

Buzzard Trix – Back from a long absence but has won points this season. Beaten a long way on Rules debut and would be a surprise winner off a 3-year layoff.

Slaney Opera – Point winner last time but pulled up on previous chase outing. Unproven at this level and may struggle to keep tabs late.

Dr Lockdown – Poor form under Rules and lacks the form or stamina credentials to be a factor here.

3. Runner Ratings (out of 10)

The Rebel County – 8

Kings Jet – 7.5

Jeux D’Eau – 7.5

> Keep a close eye on any market moves, particularly for runners like I’m Spellbound (off 1100+ days) and Buzzard Trix (off over 3 years). Weak support or significant drifts could be telling, while sustained support for the well-backed Irish pair would increase confidence.

4. Each-Way Angle

With 11 runners declared, standard each-way terms apply.
Jeux D’Eau has place credentials if putting in a clear round. He’s been competitive in similar events, and the likely slow pace may suit. I’m Spellbound is another potential placer if transferring her point form to this sphere.

5. Private Tissue Estimate

Hung Jury – 3/1

The Rebel County – 4/1

Kings Jet – 5/1

Jeux D’Eau – 6/1

I’m Spellbound – 10/1

Kilfilum Woods – 12/1

Buzzard Trix – 16/1

Red Delta – 20/1

Slaney Opera – 25/1

Coolagh Park – 33/1

Dr Lockdown – 50/1

Summary

Hung Jury sets the standard based on his Cheltenham win and should relish the test of stamina. The Rebel County is a big danger with untapped potential following his strong Irish win. Kings Jet is respected but may need more of a test than this pace offers. If Jeux D’Eau jumps cleanly, he’s capable of picking up pieces late.

This looks set to be a tactical contest where race position and stamina reserves will prove crucial. Monitor market strength — especially on those returning from long layoffs or stepping up from lower-grade hunter events.
