19:55 TRAMORE – SIS SUPPORTING IRISH RACING HANDICAP HURDLE (2m, Good to yielding, 4yo+, €8,700)

·

Race Conditions and Pace/Draw Angles

This is a modest 2-mile handicap hurdle for older horses. The going is officially good to yielding in places. The predicted pace is very weak, which puts an emphasis on those ridden handily. Hold-up runners may be at a disadvantage unless there’s an unexpected injection of tempo. Bowensonfire, Hasten Slowly, and Star Official are likely to be better positioned early than Mercury Mission or Newtown Rambler, both typically ridden for a late run.

Leading Contenders and Profile Notes

Mercury Mission – (Timeform 131)
Progressive earlier this spring with back-to-back novice wins at Wexford and Limerick. Below form last time when held up in a big-field handicap at Punchestown but should find this calmer assignment more to his liking. The slow pace forecast is a concern as he races freely and from off the speed. Rating: 8/10

Bowensonfire – (Timeform 128)
Easy maiden winner at Limerick and placed in a novice at Ayr last time. Still unexposed but has shown signs that 2m may be a bare minimum. Likely to be handy, which suits the predicted race shape. Trainer Gordon Elliott has won this race twice in the last nine years. Rating: 8/10

Star Official – (Timeform 130)
Won a C&D handicap easily last month and is a previous Tramore scorer on soft ground. Has to prove he can back it up, but the course form, prominent style, and current mark all make him very solid. Rating: 7/10

Pidoyne – (Timeform 129)
Sidelined since last August but has won here before. Better than bare result on last appearance when hampered. Not obviously well treated, but trainer Henry de Bromhead has a good Tramore record. Rating: 6/10

Hasten Slowly – (Timeform 121)
Has won twice under similar conditions but recent form inconsistent and unseated latest in stronger company. Usually makes the running, so pace scenario suits. Rating: 6/10

Tingarran Express – (Timeform 127)
Won at Clonmel two starts back. Poor effort since but is a proven winner at Tramore and might go forward. Yard profitable with single runners on a card. Rating: 6/10

Newtown Rambler – (Timeform 127)
Won a maiden at Sligo last autumn but pulled up after a break at Fairyhouse. Related to Grand National hero Corach Rambler. May want further and a stronger gallop. Hood and tongue-tie go on. Rating: 5/10

Miss Dishy – (Timeform 125)
Out of form and tailed off in her last start. Has won over hurdles but profile suggests she’s regressed and would need a major revival. Rating: 3/10

Each-Way Angles (8 runners)

With 8 declared, each-way terms apply. Of those at bigger prices, Pidoyne and Tingarran Express both have course form and could run into a place if match fit. Keep an eye on Newtown Rambler for market support on return after a layoff, especially with the trainer’s recent big-race success.

Trainer Trends

Gordon Elliott has won this race twice (saddles Bowensonfire).

Henry de Bromhead runs two – Pidoyne and Newtown Rambler – both returning from breaks, so market may reveal stable confidence.

Miss D. M. O’Shea has a strong profit record with sole runners on a card – Tingarran Express fits that.

Market Watch Guidance:

Mercury Mission is a bounce-back candidate—support would be notable.

Bowensonfire makes handicap debut—strength behind him would be meaningful.

Pidoyne and Newtown Rambler return from absences—watch for drifts or late confidence.

In-form types returning quickly like Star Official can be dangerous in repeat conditions.
