17:35 Chester – Going Is Good Handicap (Class 4, Div II)Saturday, 31 May 2025 | 1m2f70y | 3yo | £7,731 | 9 runners | Going: Good

·

1. Race Conditions & Pace/Draw Angles

A Class 4 three-year-old-only handicap over the extended 1m2f trip at Chester. The going is good and there are 9 declared runners. The pace is forecast to be even, which should favour those able to race prominently without being overly exerted early. No pronounced draw bias is flagged here, but front-end positioning tends to be advantageous at this tight track. The Timeform pace note highlights that the setup may suit DIVINE LEGACY more than SIMPLY BLUE.

2. Key Contenders, Dangers & Outsiders

YELLOW CARD (94p) – Ollie Sangster’s fast-improving colt seeks a hat-trick after back-to-back wins at Wolverhampton and Salisbury. Scored easily last time and has been progressing sharply over further. Stays 1½m, handles firm, and looks like he’ll continue to climb the ranks. Very solid profile. 9/10

DIVINE LEGACY (90) – Caught the eye when second on handicap debut at Redcar, his first start for Julie Camacho after being gelded and off seven months. A half-brother to Silver Knott, he’s likely to progress again now granted a strong 10f setup. Camacho has a profitable record when sending just one runner to a meeting. 8/10

SIR WILLIAM (85) – Well bred and shaped encouragingly on reappearance at Epsom, fading late over a trip short of his best. Gelded over the winter and could well improve now upped in distance. However, William Haggas is 0 from 4 with 3yo handicappers here over this trip since 2021. 7/10

ARKINTHESTARS (88) – Won a Ripon maiden impressively in April and was not disgraced at Thirsk last time behind a well-handicapped winner. Prominent runner for a hot Karl Burke yard. Looks solid but possibly vulnerable to something better treated. 7/10

IT’S ONLY FUN (87) – Comfortable winner at Musselburgh, then narrowly denied under a quick turnaround. She’s had a breathing op and was gambled on last time. Likely to be suited by this trip and worth noting if market strength returns. 6.5/10

PRIDE OF DONEGAL (82p) – Handicap debutant for Charlie Johnston. Bred to improve at this trip and has shown fair promise in novice/maiden company. 130-day layoff is notable; market watch advised. 6/10

TOPTEAM (85) – Ran better than odds suggested at Epsom, having the run of the race. Remains unexposed and trainer Andrew Balding is in form. One to monitor, especially with a decent draw. 6/10

PAPPA LOUIS (84) – Has regressed since juvenile days but ran a bit better in a visor at Haydock. Visor retained but holds no strong form at 10f and usually slowly away. Others stronger. 4/10

SIMPLY BLUE (89) – Twice placed last year but has been tailed off in two handicaps this term. Fitted with a hood last time to no effect. Risky proposition at this level and track. 3/10

3. Trainer/Trends Notes & Hold-Up Risk Types

YELLOW CARD brings strong trainer stats (Ollie Sangster +£13.31 to £1 level stake with favourites) and rapid progression. A possible “go day” runner again.

DIVINE LEGACY is the only Julie Camacho runner on the card, and that angle has shown profitability.

SIMPLY BLUE and PAPPA LOUIS both exhibit signs of needing luck or tactical changes – both are flagged as needing things to fall right or return to best.

No past renewals of this specific race division on record, so historical trends are limited.

4. Runner Ratings (out of 10)

Horse Rating /10

YELLOW CARD 9
DIVINE LEGACY 8
SIR WILLIAM 7
ARKINTHESTARS 7
IT’S ONLY FUN 6.5
PRIDE OF DONEGAL 6
TOPTEAM 6
PAPPA LOUIS 4
SIMPLY BLUE 3

5. Each-Way Angles (9 runners)

DIVINE LEGACY and ARKINTHESTARS are worth considering each-way if 8+ run, given their progressive profiles and track-suited pace styles.

Watch the market especially for PRIDE OF DONEGAL and TOPTEAM, both of whom are returning from layoffs or have had limited exposure.

6. Private Tissue Estimate (Timeform Adjusted Ratings + Profile Weighting)

YELLOW CARD – 9/4

DIVINE LEGACY – 11/2

SIR WILLIAM – 6/1

ARKINTHESTARS – 13/2

IT’S ONLY FUN – 15/2

PRIDE OF DONEGAL – 9/1

TOPTEAM – 10/1

PAPPA LOUIS – 25/1

SIMPLY BLUE – 33/1

Market watch advised for PRIDE OF DONEGAL and TOPTEAM, both of whom are making their second start off breaks or in handicaps.

Summary

YELLOW CARD is the one to beat after back-to-back wins in the manner of a horse still ahead of his mark. He’s been settling better and saw out 12f strongly last time, so this extended 10f trip should hold no fears. DIVINE LEGACY is the chief danger off an eyecatching handicap debut and is the type to progress again. SIR WILLIAM, ARKINTHESTARS, and IT’S ONLY FUN have minor claims, but each has questions to answer on current marks or recent form. Monitor PRIDE OF DONEGAL closely in the market on this return from a break—he remains a work in progress with stamina on side.
